Need help getting cell phone and tablet to connect to new Plex server on new computer

I have been running Plex on a desktop computer. I have a new laptop that I want to run the Plex server on for now. Here’s my confusion. I have the plex app on my cell phone, a 7 inch tablet and a 10 inch tablet. All of these devices have been setup to connect to my Plex server running on my desktop computer.

I am unable to get these same devices to connect to my Plex server running on my new laptop. Let’s say that my Plex admin user account on my old desktop is “OldUser” and my Plex admin user account on my new laptop is “NewUser”. How do I get my cell phone and tablets to connect to the “NewUser” computer and not the “OldUser” computer?

The only option I see in the cell/tablet apps is to add a managed user to my existing Plex home. How do I change my Plex Home in these apps so it connects to the new laptop?

I read articles on how to transfer an existing Plex server from one computer to another computer. But all of these articles seem to be more concerned on how to transfer your IMDB data, etc. If there is an easy way to just transfer my “OldUser” server to my new computer I wouldn’t mind trying that either. Either way I don;t mind rebuilding my directories.

Right now, if I log into my plex server on my new laptop using the “OldUser” user/pass it just connects to my “OldUser” desktop computer to stream the content.

I feel silly that I can’t figure this out myself.

Why did you use a different account to run the second/new server to start with? That’s not actually necessary… your account can run many servers independently.

As for your immediate question… there’s two options:

  1. sign out the devices from your old account and sign in using your new one
  2. share the libraries from your new server/account to the old account

Thank you. I was unaware that I could run multiple servers under one account. I will have to research this before signing up for a Plex Pass so I can do everything under one account at that time. I was able to log out of my one account and log in using my new account on my apps and connect to the new server on the laptop. Thank you. That just didn’t occur to me. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to Plex. I appreciate the forum and the assistance offered.
