Did buy a Nvidia Shield Tube 2019 because of missing audio codecs on Amazon Fire-TV 4K Ultra. These codecs play well on Nvidia Tube but Plex has serious problems on that device.
After 18-20 minutes, when playing high bandwidth content, Plex freezes on Nvidia TV 2019. The remote freezes as well. At that time it takes minutes to navigate to the settings and force close Plex. After that Plex plays well again - for another 18-20 minutes.
Any idea what I can do? Plex on Nvidia Shield TV Tube 2019 is useless for me. Plex on AFTV hangs on True HD audio streams and Plex on my LG TV plays only reduced audio thru ARC.
All clients and the server are on latest releases.
Kodi/Plex Connect has no problems with the same content on that device. But I do not understand the User Interface of Kodi - this combination is no solution. WAF is horrible.
IMHO it’s a Plex problem. After force close of Plex, the Shield and it’s remote work like before.
I’ve read here that the Shield is the best Plex player. It might be, but not for high bandwidth content. That’s our experience.
We now own three Plex players on different platforms. The combination of all three clients is able to Play everything:
1.) We start with Shield.
2.) If Plex crashes Shield because of high bandwidth video content, we switch over to Amazon Fire-TV 4K Ultra.
3.) If Plex hangs on AFTV because of new audio content (True-HD) we switch over to Plex App on LG TV. Here we end with reduced audio because of ARC.
Server: Unraid Nvidia (CPU 2x E-2680 v2, 20 Cores, 40 Threads, GPU 1050ti, 128GB RAM)
Clients: (Various, e.g. Shield TV 2019 Tube, Amazon Fire TV 4K Ultra, LG WebOS 3.x App)
Gigabit LAN in the house completely
Yesterday evening Plex on Shield TV 2019 Tube hung every 20min during playback of the following content with a peak of 108Mbit required bandwidth. Had to force close the app Plex. After that Plex worked for the next 18-20min.
Kodi was just an experiment when Plex became nearly unusable. I did remove Kodi again. The only app on the Shield 2019 Tube in our living room is Plex, everything else is removed.
The Tube and Plex Android TV app are not a good combination at the moment. As ChuckPa said … send it back and wait until the Pro is available again. Here is an extract from the topics:
Do you think 1GB more RAM and 32bit vs. 64bit (Tube vs. Pro) will make the difference?
For me it looks like Plex runs out of resources (CPU, RAM, whatever) on Shield TV 2019 Tube and brings this device and it’s remote into serious problems. If you force close Plex the device and the remote works again.
I doubt that this 1GB more RAM makes a huge difference. If there’s e.g. a memory leak within Plex it will appear later - but it will appear, IMHO.
