I know I'm close to the answer, but I need a little guidance making the right changes.

 

I have everything working perfectly, plex connect shows my libraries on my Apple TV3, and Netflix works a treat now.

 

After some hurdles, mostly latency and sloowwww reponse, which I ironed out thanks to reading the forums

 

The ONLY problem I have now is:

 

When I want to just watch Netflix, say with the parents over (last night), I have to have my PC on, otherwise it just times out the connection.

 

I realize it's a DNS setting, as my DNS 192.168.1.101 points to my PC, that's required for Plex Connect to work.... however I am not sure how else to get around the Netflix issue.

 

If I change my DNS to the router 192.168.1.1, Netflix of course works fine without the PC on, but then Plex Connect doesn't.

 

Is there a happy middle ground, or do I have to turn on the PC just to watch netflix now too?

Yes, your PC needs to be on in order to do anything on the AppleTV, essentially; all internet routing is going through it. If you really want to leave your PC off at times, you'll need to be switching your ATV's DNS back and forth.

The only other solution is a Router that allows you to setup DNSMASQ but that means configuration the alias';s etc in that, and its a lot more technical than Plexconnect to setup

Why not just swap from manual to auto DNS to use Netflix or any regular aTV appliance for that manner? Its fast and easy to switch back and forth.

I use asus RT-AC66U with Merlin Firmware for that, first config took me 30 min. And now i can use my atv without my computer again. I can give you more info about the config process if you wish, but only for this router and firmware.

What that setting does, it connects your ATV with your pc if you run trailers. If not, it will just run on its own. Hope I helped!

I use asus RT-AC66U with Merlin Firmware for that, first config took me 30 min. And no wi can use my atv without my computer again. I can give you more info about the config process if you wish, but only for this router and firmware.

I would be VERY interested in the info as I have an AC66U as well, also running merlin firmware (374.41)
