It has been a while now since plex for android had fixes or features for android tv. I wouldn’t care as much if the updates that did come through didn’t have so many bugs and interface inconsistencies. Here is the issues I have been facing for a number of months now:
-
Sometimes “On-Deck” and “Continue Watching” do not show up if the only items in there are items from a playlist. Requires a complete closure of the app and re-open to get the “on-deck” and “continue watching” to show up
-
If the last highlighted icon on the video playback overlay (before it disappeared) was the “skip back” or “skip forward” icons, then pressing the enter/OK button on the remote control during playback of a video, no longer brings up the overlay video controls, but instead actually activates the icon that was last highlighted on the overlay. I find myself pressing OK to bring up the overlay, but end up skipping forward by 30 seconds instead, because the last highlighted icon was the skip forward icon.
-
Jumping backwards in a video causes the player to lock up and freeze the play back. I have not been able to successfully “rewind” whilst watching a video. Very annoying when I missed something and quickly need to go back a few frames
Number 3 is driving me mad too. Not a problem on content without adverts, but FTA recordings it’s quite common to overshoot when skipping ads, but trying to back up results in the application dying. Nvidia Shield 16GB.
Hi there,
I agree to the following points and have some additional problems:
Your number 2:
Yes, that’s driving me mad, too. For some times now it ‘remembers’ the last icon selected; I would appreciate if OK just opens the overlay and “Pause” is selected. It doesn’t make sense for moving forward or backwards as you can do this by clicking left or right. And it happens on and on if I selected the next episode and click on OK it loads the next.
Your number 3:
Yes, it seems as if it buffers the upcoming minutes but deletes the buffered video as soon as it is watched. If I jump backwards it always loads the file for some seconds. Bad for 10 seconds backwards.
In addition:
There were some discussions about problems with the Android TV app (in my case Xiaomi Mi Box) and the playback of some video files. I first thought it would happen only with mp4 files but: The app always crashes if there is no metadata loaded for an item.
My Problem: 1. I have some personal files, just mkv oder mp4 files, that cannot be matched as these are no films or episodes of a known TV show. Those files always make the app crash. 2. I found out that the problem only appears with not matched files because I had to set up the Plex Cloud (that crashed the second time and it took each time 3 days to load all metadata :-() and if a TV show or a film has not yet been matched or if the metadata was not downloaded properly before the app crashes with any kind of media file (mkv, mp4). Very bad for private videos that cannot match. Analyzing files does not help.
Even selecting e.g. TV Shows or films, making Plex check if there is metadata, it doesn’t help.
