New channel not appearing in guide--how long?

A new channel became available today, April 5, 2021 at 5am Central time in the Dallas, Texas area. The channel shows up under “Device Channels” on the left, but is not in the “Guide Channels” drop-down on the right. Since it cannot be added to the “Guide”, I can’t record from it. Any wisdom on when it might show up? Thanks!

Hi, You can report it here:

This is a good question. It seems like we wouldn’t have to report it since it just became active in most of the united states.

I guess the question is how long does it take until Gracenote updates the listings and that makes it into Plex?

Just out of curiosity, how do you watch channels without a proper channel setup? (Do you just sign it to some random unassigned channel and have to remember what it really is?) It would be nice to be able to at least tune stations that have no EPG data.

It could potentially take a couple of months. I had some new channels like this one go live in my area last summer and they were not in Plex for a couple of months (mind you that was with Tivo as the provider). Fortunately the same channels were available in a nearby market so I was able to assign them the wrong (right) channels temporarily until they showed up.

Since this station is brand new nation wide, I can’t do that this time so we’re dead in the water until it gets in the guide.

Thanks JCHH! I reported it on that website. Still not on the Guide. :frowning:

The irony is that it is already in TiVo’s guide (the old Plex Guide provider). I also reported it just for kicks, 3 days ago and have not got a response yet.

Any luck with this one yet?

Nothing for Dallas, TX yet. :frowning:

Is there really no way to add a channel that isn’t in the guide?
Couldn’t we just have a fake channel option to just show the half hours?

I have multiple local channels I can’t watch with Plex - why is channel listing so inflexible?

@sa2000 any word on this one? This channel has 166 affiliates so it’s not like it’s in 1 or 2 markets:

Finally showing up in Dallas, TX.

I see that. Hopefully it shows up in the Niagara Falls, NY market soon. Still haven’t heard back from Plex for my missing channel form.

It’s showing now :grinning:

Does this google form work? It sends no email confirmation that you submitted a missing channel. It could be dumping the request in nowhere land for all I can tell.

It shouldn’t take a month to add a common channel like Hallmark Drama to a cable lineup. Its not even new to my cable provider, been there for more than a year.

Seems like there should be a way to modify the channel lineup manually to link a missing channel.

Yes, the lack of acknowledgment and follow-up is very frustrating, but it does work.

@sa2000 recommends using the form and then posting the same issue in the forums as “belt-and-braces”

There is also a way to fix this manually, or at least I was able to do so with a DVB-C tuner since I didn’t have the required patience to wait for someone else to do it for me.
If you are able to get all the required information from your TV provider, of course.

There is, it’s just… sort of hidden in the filesystem, no way to do it via the UI.

While doing your channels scan, you’ll see something like HTTP GET /device/…/scanners in your debug log
If you open that URL In your browser, you can find a reference to an .ini file corresponding to the channel package you are trying to scan.
This .ini file can then be found in:
\Plex\Plex Media Server\Resources\Tuner\Shared\scanners\dvbc[or what type of tuner you have]\transponders
or on linux:
./usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Tuner/Shared/scanners/dvbc/

When you open up said ini file, you can then enter the frequency, QAM modulation information etc.
After editing this file (or in my case, I created another file for a missing provider for my country), you should simply be able to then select the newly created (or edited) channel scan, and it should perform the scan using the newly edited parameters.

For me this provided me with 14 channels found → 160 channels found.

Are there any tutorials about doing this?

As @timothy.nance, I would like to get some info on how to do this as I am on the same place… 4 channels found out of +90

Same issue again as we have gone 3+ weeks with the nationwide rollout of the Rewind channel, yet no guide data and no way to watch the channel live, much less record it.

When are we going to get the ability to to “old school” VCR style recordings. I mean, really, even the Tablo TV from a small company has the capability.
