New DVR recording instead plays season 1 episode 1

Server Version#: 1.2.12.3243
Player Version# client v:5.8.1 platform v4

For a while now new episodes of Blue Bloods record fine and play fine on my other devices but playback on the Samsung TV instead only plays s01 e01. On the Samsung the new recorded episode appears in recently added and when I select it to play, no matter what I do, it plays S01 E01. All those older episodes BTW are not in my DVR folder but in a different folder called TV Shows. I even tried starting the show on my iPhone then it appears in the currently playing at the top in Plex players. On the Samsung TV when I then click to that new episode from the top area to continue playing it, it still goes back and starts playing the S01 E01.

I see older posts exactly on this but no resolution. Any ideas?

Let me see if I understand correctly;

  • You have two libraries, one for TV Shows and one for DVR recordings
  • You have a show called Blue Bloods in your TV Shows library
  • You recorded an episode of Blue Bloods (not S1E1) and it shows up in your DVR library
  • You try to play the recorded episode, but instead it plays S1 E1 from your TV Shows library instead

Is that correct?

That is correct. The bad playback though is only on my new 2019 8000 series Samsung(as far as I can tell). My iOS plays the right one.

Thanks, I’ll log an internal issue to investigate.

Looking further. It also does the playing of s01e01 for some other shows.

It seems like anything recorded into my “DVR Recordings” library has an issue if the same show name is already in the “TV Shows” library. Even if that particular season or episode being recorded via DVR function doesn’t even exist in the “TV Shows” library.

FYI - I treat “DVR Recordings” library as a temporary place where stuff gets deleted after watching vs. “TV Shows” library which is a ‘from original media’ storehouse that stays put.

Oooh this might help.

It seems that in all players these same new misbehaving OTA recordings also do not show in the “DVR Recordings” library if that library is sorted by “TV Show”. I can make them appear in the “DVR Recordings” library if I sort that library by episodes, season, or folder. This database malfunction might be affecting the playing of the episodes.

We tried to reproduce the problem and we didn’t see the same behaviour. Can you try the following so we can see what’s going on?

  • Turn on Log to Server in the app
  • Start playback from the TV Show library for the show having issues (preferably S1E1)
  • Once playback starts, stop playback.
  • Go to the DVR Recordings library and play the episode that was having issues
  • One playback starts, stop playback
  • DM me the logs

Thanks

OK - Done That. Sent you the logs.

I also included a video clip of the actual requested process/clicks I was doing in the Samsung client App… There is an interesting link in the clip between shows that aren’t playing the proper episode with those existing in my TV Shows Library. It also might help with lining up a time stamp of action with the timestamp in the logs (or not :).

Let me know if you need anything else.

Tried something. In finder Moved out the entire DVR folder of that show, waited a few minutes, then moved it back in.

Result. it play the correct episode (although I don’t know if it plays it correctly after adding another new recorded episode as the season is over for the year. Last time I did this test, when I deleted the folder with all recorded episodes (I watched them) it went back to playing the wrong episode as soon as new episodes were recorded again. Note this also fixes the view in that the show actually show up in DVR listing, before it didn’t if sorting that library ‘by show’. (It would show up if sorted ‘by season’ though for example)

of that

Hi there
Is there anything more on this I can help with?

Summary to those stopping by: clicking play on DVR recorded episode (in DVR Library) of a show I have previous seasons/episodes in my regular TV Shows library will only play S01E01 in the TV Shows library.
