They did roll back the android app. I uninstall the crap and reinstall it and it was the old app. I turned off auto update. My downloads of the next 5 unwatched are downloading again.
I am having this same issue on my iPad as well. I updated the app and now when it opens I am stuck on the same „Pick your favorite libraries“ screen with a „continue“ button in the lower right corner of the screen. The continue button is unresponsive and i can only assue there is supposed to be a list of „libraries“ on the screen for me to choose from, but there is nothing else on the screen. will someone from plex please advise on how to get past this issue. i cant use the app at all now!
i am having the same issue on my iPad. i cant get past the initial „pick your favorite libraries“ screen. it makes the app totally useless. @elan, @drzoidberg33 or just anyone from plex, please roll back to the previous version for iOS, many can not even use the app since the update!
I’ll post this as my reaction to the android mobile app update. Some of these have been called out already, others have not and I wanted to consolidate a list of the top things that are important to me. All testing has been done with build 2025.10.2 (1488) as that is the latest build available to me on the play-store via the preview. Anyhow, here we go …
NO LONGER AN ISSUE - removed the ability to direct play local media on your network when there is NO INTERNET ACCESS
tv episode scrolling is truly awful for anything that has a more than a few episodes per season - go access Pokémon season 01 and try and play episode 82 and see how painful your design is
forced logo support on its users without the ability for server admins to disable or change them - Pokémon logo is wrong and it’s not the only one
removed tmdb ratings
removed tv themes
removed the ability to completely disable/remove “Live TV” as its tab is front and centre on the main homepage (adware)
added the list of streaming services under settings/services (adware) eventhough its disabled on my account - previous app has these removed
removed the ability to select audio language version before starting a video
removed the ability to direct play ASS formatted subtitles
removed crew credits from the cast & crew lists - directing, writing & production all gone
removed tv episode thumbnail from main episode page which is replaced with show level fanart/backdrop
removed external player support
I don’t like the UX design - too glossy, total eye candy, way too much wasted space with the oversized artwork, clunky to use and is noticeably slower than its predecessor.
Finally, in all my 12+ years using plex this is the worst update I’ve seen. It was also preventable if plex management just listened during their so called “feedback” preview. This post from @guygamer sums it up much better than I ever could New Experience Public Release Feedback - #174 by guygamer.
This should be available, make sure you’re on the latest build and not the preview build.
You should be able to see the full crew by going to the end of the Cast & Crew list and selecting “View All”. I feel like the Cast & Crew header should probably be a shortcut here too but it isn’t currently, will ask somebody about this.
I think you’re the first person to notice. The quality and coverage of these ratings are just not very good - I personally never found them very useful.
Also this should totally not be an issue. Maybe @sixones could help out here I know he was looking into some formatting problems with ASS reported earlier.
What do you mean “first person to notice”??? Are you kidding?
It has been an interesting read about your personal favours. Please make sure to add some variant settings to the UI so that everyone could have their own personal favours regarding this being displayed - instead of just leave them out and hope that nobody notices…
Sorry, if I got you wrong, but according to my understanding, such an app should serve all kinds of senses and favours. Please add them back where they belong.
Thanks for the response, I know developers must find it hard posting on the forums as there is a huge amount of hate these days.
So, your response itself is exactly why so many of us feel so frustrated with plex today. TMDB has been my core rating system within plex since I joined. Your default TV episode ordering is TMDB. I have added over 21k worth of ratings at TMDB (dokuro's Profile — The Movie Database (TMDB)) and constantly check and add external links to IMDB so that anyone doing an import of ratings from IMDB they will get imported into TMDB.
Moreover, my ratings source is set to The Movie Database and now you just decide to remove it! Is it perfect, no but its getting better.
Just removing something that we rely on and expect to be always there is just awful from an end user perspective. Again, this is one example. There are so much stuff just removed that while you may not like it, many of us using plex do.
The amount of whiplash we all receive over the years from having to retrain ourselves and teach our family what has changed from every UI UX is ■■■■■■■ annoying. It’s psychological torture knowing that we all have had to experience at least 4 or 5 attempts of Plex apps UI redesign in the past 10 years. And knowing how much has been gutted to “simplify” the experience while also completely and purposefully not supply an ADVANCED PRO settings for those who need more tinkering with our setups just make’s using the ecosystem worse. At what point do OG Plex users draw the line, especially when Plex Inc. doesn’t realize the amount of hard work and hours we all spent to curate and setup our very own servers. The undermining, overreach, and constant changes that further hinder OUR OWN choices is like staying in a bad relationship.
When someone purchases a vehicle, do we expect or allow the car manufacturers to just decide to swap out the interior elements, change the car color that we chose and so on? NO.
I want to see stability in both the Plex apps and with Plex Inc. going forward. It does not look like they are up to the task, given how they blew it with what is yet again, another rushed app rollout with not enough extensive R&D to ship it for public release. Just sad.
Add Music Videos to this. I just cannot believe what they done here. I certainly got the impression when they announced music being removed back at the fireside last year that that those at plex either did not consider this use case of music videos or just said f e c k those people who have that content.
I, like many others have perfectly curated music video content as extras against my artists which if this app goes live will be unavailable.
Again, feature (tmdb ratings) after feature (theme music) after feature (music videos) just removed without any announcement, silently. At least those with watch together were told, we only find out after installing their update.
Unfortunately, it is not up to the developers to decide what the end users found useful/helpful.
Especially when it comes to an app/ecosystem that is as niche as this. We are not casual media enthusiasts. You do not know the things that people find quality in, so removing them without testing/asking is bound to be disaster. Everyone has their small reasons for preferring Plex. Be it TVDB ratings, theme music, or the swath of settings available to tailor one’s experience.
Like I said before. You can change how it looks, you can move things to different places, but removing them altogether is asinine. Plex’s value comes from its details and integrations. It does not need to be miniaturized.
