Server Version#: 1.41.6.9685
Player Version#:2025.15.0
I am not sure what is going on with the new app but it is slow and unresponsive. My server is running on a new M4 based Mac mini MacOS 15.4.1. However, favourites seem to be broken on the new app. I can either add favourite channels from my HD-Homerun on the app iOS/iPadOS app and see them, however on my AppleTV they are showing as no longer available. Or, I set them on the AppleTV or Desktop app and they aren’t visible on the new iOS/iPadOS app. Switching between sections on the new app is VERY slow and the app becomes unresponsive for a good 15 to 30 seconds after selecting a new section. Also, the lack of an integrated Favourite channels section is a real pain, having to switch between Plex channels and tuner channels! - It is also worth noting I think (need’s further testing) that accessing the updated mobile client whilst using the AppleTV client to access the same server causes the server to crash.
At the risk of asking an obvious question: Why release the app when it still has this many issues!? A big part of the reason I use Plex is the Live TV integration with HDHomerun tuner.
I’ve been testing the Live TV part a lot lately as I was looking as to whether I could stop paying for Satellite TV. Plex was a pretty close way to me being able to do that, but with the latest app, I really can’t cancel my satellite tv package as the Plex experience for the family is now terrible.
I have used Jellyfin for a while and again, for the family the Jellyfin experience is just too rough. Although I’m not knocking it, as it’s free.
But today, I have just signed up to a month on Emby, and boy am I surprised by that experience. The media management was surprisingly easy, helped by my Jellyfin experience obviously. But the Live TV side of it is really, really great. The TV Guide here in the UK is not quite as good as Plex, but at least it actually works on Emby!
I’m slowly testing out the Emby server and what it can and can’t do. Whilst TV is good and media management is really nippy. I’ve still not quite got my head round the TV setup yet. I will miss the FAST channels (sure I’m one of very few) I can always use another provider, just means switching between apps. That said, not sure my less than technical other half is going to appreciate the switch. Hoping some attention is being paid to feedback (although I did feedback on the lack of converged favourites channel list during the test pilot phase)…
Currently Emby is not where I need it to be for a daily driver however, for the first time since the update was pushed out I tried to use the app on my iPad (M1 Pro) and it’s just no usable, it just hangs. What the hell is going on? It’s worse than on my iPhone!
I’ve managed to eventually get the pre-experience version of Plex back on my iPad. So I’m back up and running now for live TV. I’ll keep Emby around, but I’ll cancel my Emby subscription as I only needed that for the Live TV guide part and hope that Plex get their house in order, otherwise I’ve wasted my money on my lifetime Plex pass.
I and many others have been using the app on iOS and iPadOS for months without experiencing this issue. There might be something specific causing this behaviour and having logs would help to track this down.
More than happy to. What level of logs do you want? I have had a breakthrough on the live TV as far as actually getting a picture although no sound. I have had to turn off direct play and turn on transcoding. Not as issue as the server is running on a brand new Mac mini.
I can supply logs. But I’m back on the old iPad Plex app as of around 11am today and I won’t be upgrading any time soon.
Will the logs contain the issues from the past few days?
