So far my experience with the Early Access app has been good, haven’t seen any crashes or connectivity issues so far.
One thing I did not see mentioned is that on multi-part movie files SRT subtitles don’t seem to work on the second part. I’ve tried with both a one subtitle file for both parts and two separate subtitle files per part, none of these worked. PGS subs worked fine on both parts.
The interface is looking very good, and feels a lot smoother all around. Once Magic Remote functionality is added this will be great. Only the media playback interface definitely needs some work. Subtitles are buried way to deep, there should be quicker access to these kind of settings from the playback menu. Especialy because it takes you completely out of the movie, would be nicer if this was an overlay menu.
The new app is pretty good (visible improvement in interface smoothness) but:
Colorful subtitles have a thick white border. Please add option to change the color and thickness of the border. In the old version of the player there was no problem with borders.
Subtitle search - you cannot change the subtitle search language (only English). I am asking for the option to change the language of the subtitle search. In the old player it worked.
Occasionally, subtitles stop playing at the end of the movie. After re-enabling from the same moment they work.
Navigation using the Magic Remote cursor still does not work.
@markus101 I had one more change noticed on the new client that you can add to the Known Issues list. When you back out of an episode after it has been marked watched, the autoplay screen does not display. It will only show up if you watch the episode until the very end. On the public client, it shows up if you click the back button anytime after the episode is considered watched.
The way the public client handles it is more convenient as it allows you to skip past credits.
Had been enjoying the new app until yesterday morning. App couldn’t find my server. I signed our and back in and all was well. Same thing on both my TV’s. Happened again this morning. I switched back to the stable app and everything was back.
This has been answered plenty of times in the context of the existing app and will not be changing any time soon in the new app. With unsupported audio there is an issue syncing the subtitles to the video accurately and consistently, there may be future PMS changes to help there.
Works fine on third party Xplay app, which just Direct Plays the TrueHD track as Dolby Digital…
This leads to some awkward UX with different language subtitles/commentary tracks. We don’t have plans to re-introduce this behaviour. Switching to a supported track manually is the only workaround.
To clarify, you mean two files for the one movie, subs work for the first file and not the second?
I believe only black text should get a white background (same as the existing app), we’ll take a look at why other colours are as well.
I can add playlists i have created on the web client to my list of feeds, however from the LG app im unable to add anything new to existing playlists or create a new playlist. Anyway to do this in the LG app?
Since changing to the new version of the app, the internet connection totally drops from my tv at random periods watching plex.
I have to wait for it to reconnect to try again. It always happens while streaming something on plex. I cans be watching fine for a long time and then it will drop my internet.
This literally only coincides with switching the version of the plex app. Nothing else changed.
Been completely fine for ages until this.
I’m wired into the router now so it’s not a WiFi issue.
Happens on different servers too so it’s not a server issue (not that a server could cause my tv to drop internet lol)
Internet stays up, it just drops on the tv mid streaming of plex on the new app.
Overall pretty happy with the preview, I like the UI better than the old one and it’s much snappier (OLED B9 and 2019 LG LCD)
My only complaint so far, is the removal of the Shuffle icon from the show and season overview pages. At the moment you have to play an episode, and then select shuffle from the options while the episode is playing.
It’d be great to re-instate the easy shuffle option on the Overview and Episode level.
In this new early access the problem with audio files is not fixed.
Importing lots of audio files not good. I have 20k+ mp3 files and i get wrong tags are no tags add all. There should be some seting like… select tags from the file not from internet. and if you have bad named files only select from internet but only selected files. I have LG UJ7507
Hi, I have an issue where a direct playing video will start buffering at a random point during playback. Videos play all the way through on the old app and on my old Samsung tv.
Many problems have been solved, and I’m very happy, especially that the files with high bitrates are no longer buffering, I noticed something that with all the other players that I use works well (nvidia shield, amazon stick, appletv 4k, plex for ios , plex for ipados, plex for mac) instead no for plex for lg beta, in practice I have a high consumption of the processor (plex transcoder, plex media server on qnap) on 4k hdr10 files, the file is obviously read in direct playback. for the rest great work by all the staff, if you can combine the magic remote and maybe reduce the graphics is the top.
@markus101 I’ve figured it out, I was incorrect in saying there was the difference between secure and insecure connections. The issue was due to having an audio boost selected instead of ‘none’ which also causes an inability to Direct Play as well. I’ve read other reports of audio settings affecting Direct Play too. It seems anything but default here causes issues.
As soon as I removed the audio boost; setting to ‘None’, Direct Play was possible again and trailers from web worked
Also, I’ve noticed a slight lip-sync issue with the new version. Roughly a half second-1 second delay in audio. Slightly annoying.
Server Version#:1.19.4.2935-79e214ead
Player Version#:
Tried early access when setting up on LG TV Web OS3 and when watching online programs with ads, the player will reset to the beginning of the program after playing the ad. Tried multiple programs and this is a consistent error.
Went back to previous version and the problem resolved.
Just reporting this in the hope that it is fixed by the time the new version is fully released.
I’ve recently encountered an issue with the new app with 4K vp9 video. On the old app and older versions of the new app it worked fine, and I think it had to convert the video. On the new app now, it appears to play without conversion, but the video is stuttery and doesn’t play smoothly.
Change what’s shown on the Home screen Customisation. For example, being able to show just recently released films on one user accounts Home screen rather than recently added. I can’t do that with the new app.
