Hi, the new app works fine but I’m missing the color “grey” for subtitles. White subtitles are very bright and annoying when watching something so my go to color for subtitles was always grey. Also the subtitle size tiny is still too large, though this is already listed in your “known issues”.
TV model: OLED65C9
App version: 5.0.12
webOS version: 4.8.0-52203 (goldilocks2-gyeongju)
It happens to me as well with LG C9. I thought my router was the problem, but I couldn’t figure out with only the TV was impacted and none of the other devices. I didn’t imagine it could come from Plex.
In a way glad to see someone else with this issue to prove it’s a bug.
Definitely needs fixing this as it is unusable! Killing the whole of the internet on the tv with the new plex app, as in disconnecting it so if you go into settings you can see it’s disconnected and then tries to reconnect.
Stops happening when you downgrade to the old version of plex. Old version no disconnects and works fine!
Massive bug!
I posted this same kind of notice on another (now closed) topic :
On the old app, there is indeed the ability to go back and forth in the movie with ‘up’ and ‘down’ keys. If there are chapters, you navigate through chapters this way, otherwise you go 10 minutes by 10 minutes. This is missing in the new app.
and today received the following answer :
That’s been moved to the Channel +/- buttons.
but unfortunatelly and after testing, this doesn’t work.
it does work now, HDR is showing, but i still get those weird colors on my screen. This has been happening for a very long time. It happens with most movies that are in 4k with truehd.
I have enabled the app to see what it looks like and just wanted to comment that I think the TV episode view now looks amazing compared to the current implementation on Android TV. I love the fact that you can scroll through TV episodes by just going right and left and get all the synopsis info without having to go to a secondary screen. Also love the fact that you can easily go to a different season from the top row, very handy if you want to switch between the current season and specials.
I really hope this kind of view/UI comes to Android.
Getting video lag / buffering / stuttering when using .ASS subtitles, seems to be less when I use burn in
When there are multiple lines of subtitles (most notably when there are subtitles for background and someone speaking), only one part is shown. I’ve seen this most with anime where the translation of a sign overrides the translation of the people speaking.
Something else
Subtitles settings seem to be off between client and server (might not be related to new client): I have the selection in the server for “shown when foreign audio”, but it seems to ALWAYS select subtitles for english audio and DOES NOT for foreign audio.
i appreciate the answer, i know of this temporary fix, but this has been an issue for a very long time and its upsetting that it hasn’t been fixed yet.
So at the moment, truehd will now kick hdr in but most movies will show weird colors on screen.
I don’t know if this is the place for feature suggestions/requests, but Xplay has one very cool feature:
It shows a red (T) next to a subtitle if selecting the format will cause the server to transcode. It’s pretty cool to know which subtitles to avoid on the 4K HDR movies.
It’s not a pretty implementation they chose, and it only works for subtitles AFAICS, but showing a warning when selecting a combination of soundtrack and subtitles that will cause the server to transcode, is really useful for me.
@markus101 Direct play of some .ts files (Recorded Live TV) the video skips frequently every few seconds by random small increments. this is fixed by transcoding instead of Direct Play. No issue with Direct Play playback on Chrome browser so the cause is the LG app.
I’ve always had to disable 7.1 to make 4K HDR files play properly.
For me, they either transcode when they shouldn’t (and I don’t think plex has worked out Tonemapping yet), or the Atmos audio gets all hollow and you can’t hear dialogue.
