New LG webOS App Preview

Works great. Any hope of “Watch Together” functionality coming too?

I prefer the old setup to the preview. the menus and controls are bigger and clunkier looking and some options are missing?
Many of my HDR videos, didn’t switch over to HDR mode, and they looked washed out. After I switched off the preview HDR worked properly again.
also experiencing frequent buffering in the new version of the app

I can’t get past the pin screen. No way to enter my pin, and I don’t have it set on this TV so that Plex opens straight away. Others clearly can access the app, I don’t know what to do now. Uninstall? I’ve switched off the TV, but after opting in to the preview I can’t open or get past my log in icon with the crown and the green lock, but no way to enter a pin?

Now stuck needing advice, can’t open Plex at all, no other option to revert?

Please please re-add the big seek when pressing up key.

The screensaver feature is quite nice, but is there a way to choose the libraries from which it pulls the screenshots? because now i’m getting porn pics on the screen saver.

I have a OLED55B8SLC running 05.10.50 and the live guide is working now which is an amazing leap forward, maybe took a bit of time populating the first time. The magic remote pointer doesn’t work which would be the icing on the cake.

Not sure what your seeing but it’s awesome

Have not experienced that issue.

TV Model

Server version

Uninstalled, restarted, reinstalled, got the option to try the new release. Took the pin first time after that.

All working now.

  1. HDR is very stuttery. Buffering every few minutes and it never settles down. Colours all look fine but it’s really stuttering on files that previously worked fine.

  2. The Magic Mouse isn’t responsive? I need to use the scroll wheel to select any items, moving the mouse/remote doesn’t allow selecting controls.

  3. Default H264 encoding was set to 4 which seems pretty low for my Plex set up and my TV.

Looks nice, will any updates to this be reflected automatically? Or is the current performance what will remain until the official app? Curious because not being able to select controls using a wave of the mouse and HDR performance would send me back to the old version.

Happy to persist if it helps improve the LG experience.

Hey there, Thanks for letting us test out the new look. Very slick and stylish.
Only two small things which would be:

  • Possible functionality with LG Magic Remote.
  • I might’ve missed this (was very late at night checking out the new update)
but it seems the “remaining time” on both the pre-play screen of the movie/show is gone. The same happens when it’s paused. You used to be able to see what time was remaining but now it just says the overall film length and how much has been watched?

Two small things but if these could be fixed that’d be great.

Cheers!

Agreed! Subtitles delay was very important.

I’ve got the exact same problem. Switching back to the old app and it works perfectly again.
I do like the new interface…

The option to “Enable/Play Theme Music”, is missing!!!

No theme music currently plays when browsing TV Shows.

This was something I really liked and was about to customize a few of my anime intros to get the music I wanted, please re-add this feature.

Also, just a preference thing, and I mean no offense, but the grey blur for the pop-up menu when viewing content is hideous. I would really appreciate this being completely transparent.

I’m liking the UI so far, initially I was pretty on the fence but I’m coming around.

My last big complaint is the new visual representation of when something is watched, for each episode in a TV show the little flag in the corner would disappear indicating it was watched, now for each episode watched it places a little Orange bar, I much preferred the look without this orange bar.

As one of the first comments mentions the new all black background with the Plex logo looks amazing on an OLED, first thing I noticed and I loved it.

It’s fast, but personally, I think the layout looks way too big and all of the info in the collections is lost. I love seeing more of the collection at once, but we no longer get the backgrounds or info on them. The old App was more aesthetically pleasing in that regard. I’ve spent hours building out collections and it seems like half of that work is lost with this new layout. The number of films have gone away as well. Maybe there is a way to use the “Info” button on the LG remote to bring up those bits of info?

While on the subject of collections, I’ve noticed that the web app has been updated and you can now sort the collection alphabetically as well as by date. Does that carry over to this app? Is there any way to sort by custom list ie, Top 20 Horror movies in their correct ranking?

Functionally, it’s faster, but I’m concerned about subtitles. I’m not seeing a way to delay or adjust them anymore and most of mine are from opensourcesrt and sometimes it requires a delay one way or another. Has anyone seen how to do this? On top of that, looking at some people’s comments, subtitles menu is hard for them to find. I found it and still have the issues with there being no delay, but maybe there’s a way to make the subtitles button bring you right to that menu?

Also, is there a way to turn on the clean “PLEX” screensaver? I like the ideas with the pictures in the database, but that was much cleaner and preferred.

If we’re making updates, is there anyway that we can select the director to bring up their movies, like we can on the web browser? That would be immensely helpful since the director filter gives a bit of an unwieldy list. Same question with the writer, I suppose.

It’s nitpicky, but I prefered the extras small, as in most movies it is just the one trailer, and the cast being directly below that, like in the old app makes more sense than scrolling down past related movies and having them on the bottom. It keeps the current movie more contained and then offers more after in the original way. This way seems a bit more messy.

Finally, is the watch-with-me function going to be implemented in this new app?

I love the ease of getting to settings though, if more customizability were returned this would be amazing.

Thanks for all of your hard work! Very excited about this! Once the little things are tweaked it’s going to be amazing!

I’m also experiencing buffering issues with the new experience. I’m playing a 4K HDR file it would play for about 10 seconds and then buffer for two seconds.

I’ve isolated it down to the new experience because playing the same file using the old experience is completely smooth without any buffering.

  • Video is a direct play
  • Video codec: HEVC
  • Video framerate: 24p
  • Video profile: Main 10
  • Dimensions: 3840x2160
  • Bitrate: 74890
  • No subtitles
  • Tried both WiFi and ethernet
  • Both new/old are using Direct Play
  • Tried changing new experience to use H.264 Level 5.1 like the old player (new experience defaults to 4.1)

Mine appeared mysteriously this morning :joy:. Who knows what witchcraft is occuring but I’m glad to see it’s finally here! :slightly_smiling_face:

Mysteriously mine appeared this morning. It looks great! Thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

Not working at all. Im first time install Plex on my new LG C9 from lg content store, and agreed to “Early access”. On next screen (“Select content types”) its just stuck, no one button not working. Reinstalling of apps not help, restarting TV not helpt - if im select Plex in homescreen its loading and go to this screen with not working button.
Im also try to use DLNA server - its works but bad. Only good things - good preview covers for movies. But bad filtering - many useless options with one needed in very end of list - “By folders”. But twshows in subfolders not detected - “No content” in most folders.

I’m adding my findings as well.

General

  • The dashboard is way to cramped, and the fontsize is too large. The overall typography is grating on the eyes, and the same goes for subtitles.
  • The addition of my server name underneath each library adds to the cramped look and feel of the dashboard. I don’t need to know which server I am connected to, as it is only the one.
  • The spacing between items and their titles is way too small, especially when hovering over an item.
  • While using cover art for the screensaver is a fun feature, i should be able to enable/disable which type of screensaver I would use, and I don’t think a screensaver showing movie titles when I’m listening to music makes sense.

TV & Movies playback

  • Shuffle TV shows seems to be broken
  • Subtitle offset/adjustment is gone? I use subtitles for all of my stuff, this is a very big deal.
  • The subtitles do not look appealing at all. Horrible choice of typography - please abide by industry standards as they exists for a reason. This is part is not a “fun design” task, it’s a usability issue - ones that has been tried and errored for decades here in non-native countries. Please check your standards.
  • I still don’t see any ‘skip intro’, but that’s probably on my end.
  • I’m experiencing issues with a UHD/4K file, which I just succesfully played last night (Video: 4K, Audio: AC3 5.1, Subtitles: English external)

Music

  • Where did library radio go? I was hoping for more Plexamp features, like feelgood radio!
  • Music got better by adding the filter options
  • I’m unable to navigate to an artist via “recently added album”

I’m happy to never have subtitles on anything ever if it means no transcoding or buffering especially for HDR or 4K. Can anyone tell me if that has to be set on my server or the tv. Where is the “no subtitles ever” setting? On the tv? Or both? Happy to test this to see if it resolves the 4K issue.

Just not sure what/where I can globally say no subtitles ever?
