I’ve been using my Shield Pro as a server with an external hdd and its been working great for the past year and a half. Whenever i added new media, i would do a manual rescan if i didnt see it immediately, and i was good to go. Recently when i add new media, its says its scanning (automatic and manual), but its never added to the libraries. i checked the plex app and it was still up to date, but the PMS wasnt, so i updated that, but still no dice. i can still access and watch movies from whats been scanned correctly in the past, but new items cant be added. im pulling my hair out, so any help would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: Just to test, I added a new library and pointed it at the same movies folder as the one thats working, and after the scan, it says theres no content. i havent changed any setting at all since day 1 so i have no idea whats going on.
Would you mind sharing your server logs – from the ring of it this might be an issue with the Plex database on the Shield. If there’s some corruption this could show by Plex failing to add / update the database. If this was only about newly added files my 1st suspicion usually goes to poor file naming/organization… but given creating a new library with the same media fails as well, that implies this is probably not the issue (except you tried to recreate a movie library as a tv-show library )
Plex has a procedure on how to attempt repairing a corrupted database – this has very recently been added to the executables of the Plex Media Server… this won’t however be of much help on the Nvidia Shield.
The more straight forward approach seems to be restoring your Plex Media Server with an automatically created backup:
ok, so i followed the instructions and went to restore from previous backup, but the library.db and library.blobs.db all had different dates. there was only 1 set of matching dates and that was about 2 weeks ago. there are more recent ones, but the dates aren’t paired. with the other file type.
In any case, i took out the -wal and -shm files, duplicated and renamed the backup then re-scanned the libraries. still nothing. weird thing is if i access the external through the network, it shows the new season i added, but its just a 0 kb file. however, if i plug the drive in via USB directly to my laptop, the folder and all files are there. whats even more strange is that while connected to the shield, i can open VLC and browse to the folder and it shows all the files and i can play them fine.
im thinking this is more hassle than it should be, so my final request is can you instruct me on how to do a fresh re-scan. like starting from zero. in total, i only have about 5 TB of media, so it wont take as long as some of these other people to scan it all again. What steps should i take to fix this and start over? delete libraries, uninstall plex, clear plex folder from android folder? can you walk me thru this?
