New Media Server

Server Version#:20.04 2-live-server-amd64

Had plex installed in windows server, media on external USB HDD, Installed new VMware 7.0.3 environment and decided to load a ubuntu live server, didn’t care about the backup had the media and recreating the library would be pretty simple, 4 directories and done.

I have the server loaded in ubuntu fine, i added the ip in dns server (plex.mydomain.com) in my browser i put in the domain name (local environment) http://plex.mydomain.com and it loads plex, asked me to login i have plex pass so i entered my details and i appear to be in my plex account but not the server, i saw my old server, and choose to delete it but i don’t see how to add my new one??? I have looked all over the place and cannot find any where to add or new nothing, please advise.

Make sure to access the new server through its bundled version of Plex Web and from within the same subnet.

Theoretically, adding the server’s local IP to your DNS should cover the 1st base. Though it can be worth testing with the actual local IP address (http://[PMS ip address]:32400/web) to avoid some hiccup and Plex considering it a non-local connection.

It might also be worth to look into the network setup of your VM. Preferably the VM should be configured to use the local router’s DHCP or a static IP address from the same subnet. Otherwise you’ll need to enforce a „local“ connection — e.g. using a SSH tunnel.

here is what i get when accessing it from the ip addrss.

I have restarted the VM and the Host machine, getting same result. Start over?

^^^ this.
You must use the server’s IP for initial setup.
