Trying to add another Plex Server

I lost my Plex server from a storm spike. I’m trying to set up my laptop as a server backup, but the only server Plex tries to connect to is the one that is out of service, and there isn’t an obvious option to add an alternate server to add my libraries to.

I’ve looked at the instructions given here, https://support.plex.tv/articles/200288926-creating-libraries/

but I’m getting tripped up on the second bullet, “Ensure that the correct Plex Media Server is selected within the settings menu.”. According to my taskbar on the laptop, Plex server is running, but I don’t know the way to say, ‘use this local one’ so I can set up my libraries again. There doesn’t appear to be any server or manage buttons anywhere. I did a reset customizations hoping they would show up. No luck.

For initial setup of a new server, you cannot use the hosted web client at app.plex.tv; you must first access the local web client at the localhost address (or the IP address of the server). Either:

http://127.0.0.1:32400/web (if you’re accessing it from a browser on the server itself)
or:
http://ip.address.of.server:32400/web (from another system on the same LAN)

From there you can complete the initial setup, including claiming the server. Once that is done, you can access it via app.plex.tv.

Thanks. I was finally able to access it with the loopback address you provided.

No problem, glad it worked.
