New movies are not added, new TV shows/episodes are

I recently had to reset Windows 10 on my dedicated Plex server. I had backed up the PMS files before doing so, and then I restored them after Windows was up and running properly. All of my Plex media resides on a separate Unraid server, just to be clear, which was not affected.

Since then, all has worked as before except that PMS is not picking up new movies when Radarr adds them, or if I add them manually. Manual scans complete with no change.

New TV shows/episodes are recognized and added without issue.

I tried to go through the logs, but I don’t really know where to look. I would greatly appreciate some assistance.

Thank you.

Server Version#: 1.19.5.3112 (Windows 10)
Player Version#: 4.34.3 (Plex Web)

I restarted PMS, then I scanned the Movie library, then I downloaded the logs.

How is Plex made aware that it should scan for new media?

Do you have ā€œupdate my library periodicallyā€ enabled?
Do you have a connection in Radarr informing Plex of new media?

Note that ā€œupdate my library automaticallyā€ is unlikely to be functional on a home NAS SMB share.

I appreciate that you took the time to respond. As I mentioned, manual scans work fine with TV Shows, but not with Movies. They are on the same share, in two different folders.

Yes, I have ā€œScan my library automaticallyā€ checked, along with ā€œScan my library periodically.ā€

Yes, I have a connection in both Radarr and Sonarr. The connections were working fine prior to this.

Oh I misunderstood your original meaning.

Manual scans are NOT successful - nothing, at this point, works for them?

I’ll look at the logs when I’m at a real computer, unless somebody beats me to it.

Before I look, are you confident that the permissions for both shares & directories allow the Plex user to access them?

I looked at the permissions and the new movies permissions are identical to the other ones.

Correct, Plex is not adding the new movies no matter if the scan is initiated automatically or manually. But Plex is happily adding new TV.

I would certainly appreciate it if you could examine the logs.

I tried an experiment, actually two.

First, I created a new folder called Movies2, in the same share as Movies, and moved the undetected movies over to the new directory. I added this folder to the existing Movies library, and a scan automatically began. It did NOT find the movies.

Then I removed the new Movies2 folder from the existing Movies library. I created a new library, Movies2, and pointed it at the Movies2 folder. This time, the ensuing scan found all of the new movies without a problem.

That suggests an issue with the database information associated with the original Movies library, does it not? I have no clue how I would go about repairing that.

I have 130 carefully curated Movie Collections, and I don’t want to do anything that will disrupt them.

Can you share the logs again? It might be useful to see that latest set of Movies2 scanning/activity.

Logs attached.

TY. Downloading.

Oh, if you have Verbose logging enabled, you should be able to turn that off. It’s rarely helpful. Keep Debug on!

Can you give a couple example filenames that haven’t been matched?

I have Debug on and Verbose off.

Movies2 includes Gambit (1966), Going In Style (both 1979 & 2017), and Big Deal on Madonna Street (1958), among others.

I don’t see anything OBVIOUS - which mostly means you need somebody better at parsing the logs. :-/

I don’t see database issues.

I see a few things that are odd.

In the logs from the 23rd, although it says it’s going to process the directory for Gambit, there’s never anything for Gambit in the Scanner logs. But then it does update the directory-was-scanned time.

On the 25th, it’s obvious when it parses Gambit (and the others) inside Movies2, but not when it goes back to Movies.

This makes me suspect that the scanner couldn’t access the NAS, but it looks temporary.

And so does this, also temporary:

Earlier today, I updated to the latest version of the Plex Media Server, which was recently released. I didn’t give it a lot of thought.

*** BINGO *** Suddenly, Plex is finding the new movies in my Movies library. It’s fixed. It’s a miracle!

@Volts, thank you for your efforts to help. It was much appreciated.

Were the new movies being added movies that you already have? I ask because until the new version if you already had a movie in your library it would now show as new.

No, these were movies that I did not already have.
