After further testing, it seems to not be so closely tied to high bit rates but more to decoding Atmos. I have far more instability when playing back HDR/Atmos files.
I am seeing the same issues on the tube with locally streamed MKVās TrueHD being passed-thru, however im seeing no audio getting to my receiver, I thought it was a few files but could see and decode those streams away from the shield/plex combo. I however am having no luck on the Kodi/Plex combo mentioned. Hell even a DTS-HD audio on a 1080p mkv isnāt working ,my receiver is showing PCM 2.0 for a 5.1 stream.
I sold the tube version because it didnt work. It just didnt. Got a used 2017 Shield and everything works fine. Only miss the new remote.
Im out of the return but may go pick up a pro tomorrow, and see if that resolves this issue.

I have till 31st Jan to return to Amazon, issue is that the Pro is out of stock everywhere.
Got a Shield Tube for Christmas and I have found that using the stock updates (no beta versions of PMS, Android on Shield or PMP on Shield) I can play all non 4K content for hours and hours but unless I force close I canāt play a 4K file (doesnāt seem to matter if HDR/DV or Atmos/5.1) at all for more than a few seconds before getting a lock up and then I just have to keep retrying until it plays or force quitting Plex app.
Iām happy to provide logs as well etc. but just thought Iād add my frustration for a very powerful box it seems like this lets it down but it definitely seems like a memory leak.
I found a local pro, going to grab it now will update this thread if it works. If not then I know its something else but its pretty much the only item I havenāt ruled out as the problem. The signal is sending from PMS I can see it, but the receiver is not seeing any input from the shield tube. Im way out of my refund period for the tube, but may keep it for ā ā ā ā ā and giggles until they (if they) fix this problem. At any rate ill update yall on the outcome of the pro.

No having the same issue. Pro or Tube, my receiver is getting either NO stream or a PCM 5.1 input and its coming in but very choppy and loud.
Well after all of that heart ache and expense, my receiver needed a hard reset, I still have a pro now so thats fine but that was the culprit.

It was not, however in the AM I plan to hook up the Tube again, and see if I canāt reproduce the same issues everyone else is having.
Did the Tube work after reseting the receiver? I bought a tube recently and totally frustrated with this issue. I tried hard reseting the receiver but did not help. Will try one more time tomorrow reseting receiver, tube and everything to see if it works.
To the Plex team: do you need additional logs or anything to help with resolving the issue? Previously I was able to use the old player and have no crashes, but I am back to getting crashes with both players. Sometime the video starts normally, sometimes it starts and playback stutters then crashes, and sometimes it doesnt start at all andcrashes and restarts the app.
Iām having the same problem on my Shield Tube. 4K Remix files crash the device immediately. Even reloads the plex app right when I start the video. Like others, plex for kodi works fine.
What is happening? Some uppdate?
