Currently the Library advanced options for Collections are:
Disabled
Hide items which are in collections
Show items and their collections
And the Collection advanced options for Collection mode are:
Library default
Hide items in this collection
Show this collection and its items
Hide collection
Choosing Disabled in the library options means none of the collection options will work. So, it’s not possible (unless I’m missing something) to have collections hidden by default and then select only a few to show in the library. The only way have a few shown is to choose the library option to ‘Show items and their collections’ and then one-by-one (because we can’t get advanced options for multi-selection) set individual collection options to ‘Hide collection’.
What I would like to see is an additional Library option to ‘Hide collections’ and an additional Collections option to ‘Show this collection and hide its items’. Then collections can be hidden by default and just select a few to display in the library, which will take far less time than the current method.
And also an option to reset all collections to the library default would be nice.
Picking “Disabled” doesn’t “disable” Collections in general.
All it does is to not show collections among the regular videos, on the “Library” tab.
Thanks, but this is not how it works for me which is why I thought disabling collections completely disabled all collection other options. I have collections disabled and when I change a collection to anything other than library default nothing happens. For example, I’ve set a movie collection to show this collection and its items, but the collection isn’t shown in the library.
Collections are only shown, if the sorting mode of the library is set to “by Title”.
It is set to title and always has been.
OttoKerner, are you able to provide any suggestions for why my collections aren’t behaving the way they’re supposed to? Your help would be greatly appreciated.
If you set the general preference on the library level to “disabled”, then you won’t see collections inline.
No matter what you set as visibility on an individual collection.
I think he is asking for a “Hide Collections Show items” option which does not exist, rather than a “disable” because he does not want to disable them, just not shown by default.
Yes, I know. That’s what my post was about. Then you told me that’s not how collections work, and now you’ve said it is. So, back to my post, I propose there be a library option to ‘Hide collections’ and a collection option to ‘Show collection and hide its items’.
