New Personal Video Folder Not Finding Files

I have created a new folder called Shorts. I added this Library as Other Videos, Plex Scanner. When I add video files (MP4) to the folder and run sync, nothing is found. What am I doing wrong?

An other-video type library will expect videos named as movies – so if your files are named/organized like a tv-show, the scanner might skip them. There’s some other options like permissions (though that should not be an issue if you’re running the server under your own account and you can see/access the videos).

I’m not 100% sure what you mean by “running sync”.
After adding new files – you should use the Scan Library Files option from the library’s context menu for Plex to catalog the newly added files.

The test file I added is named Janis Joplin bitches about European audiences.MP4. I run Scan Library Files and nothing gets added. I am running the server under my own account and I can see and access the video.

Any embedded metadata that could identify the video differently?

I removed all embedded tags and tried again. Still nothing.

If there had been embedded tags which somehow misled Plex, you might need to perform a Plex Dance.

My menu doesn’t look like that. Mine has Unpin, Reorder, Scan Library Files, Grant Access and Manage Library. Under Manage Library is has Edit, Reorder, Empty Trash, Analyze, and Delete. I emptied the folder, emptied the trash, checked the filename and made sure all tags were gone, moved the file back in to Shorts folder, then ran Scan again. Nothing.
