New Plex Agent is Slower to pickup changes from Source Metadata Sites like TMDB

There’s apparently a bug with our daily updates that’s causing some things to not get updated correctly. Will update when I know more.

@anon5074910 the bug I referenced in my last post was fixed earlier today so things should start getting back on track :crossed_fingers:

Feel free to ping me anytime you see something weird.

@drzoidberg33 thanks – will give it 24 hours and see how things are after that – much appreachiated

@drzoidberg33 looking good and no oddities that I can see so far. I’ll assume for now its all sorted but it becomes an issue again I’ll update this thread. Thanks again.

@drzoidberg33
thanks!

Most of the movies with updated Tmdb metadata where picked up by the new movie agent after 24-48 hours

Only movies that didn’t have a translated page in my country or “External IMDB Id” yet, have a problem. The translated page is getting picked (after 24-48 hours) but the match is not merged together with the meta data from “IMDB” therefore it shows 2 matches on those movies when clicking “fix match” not 1 merged like many other movies.

Hopefully this getting fixed aswell.

Thanks!

@drzoidberg33 have noticed another oddity which I’d like to get clarification on. Lets take https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/14460-battle-beyond-the-stars as the example. When you check the Genre for this movie on TMDB its set with Science Fiction but when the metadata gets to plex Action/Adventure has been added.

Can I ask why when I have set the agent to get its data from TMDB ?

BTW… not sure what Action/Adventure actually means. Could be a bug and most likely should be split as two genre types action and adventure, like below.

i think they combined the 2 genres when they added the new movie scanner. It was separated before.

The combination of action and adventure has to be a bug, if not its beyond stupid.

IMDB and TMDB has these seperated. Makes no sense for plex to combine these. I’d say its just something which their test team missed.

Hey man @anon5074910 thanks for posting your message at my thread. Glad to see that more people are aware of the Action/Adventure thing. I hope it gets fixed. Also not a big fan of the new long row in the episodes/collection section instead of the nice grid 4x4 view.

I find the new Plex movie agent not much improved than the legacy one. I think that one was allright and much faster to be honest.

Hey @Pandertje ook uit Nederland? Gezellig :slight_smile: Limburger hiero

For me there is two problems:

  1. Why has Action/Adventure been added to genre for this movie when the metadata source does not have it.
  2. Why has Action and Adventure now become 1 genre type, Action/Adventure. I suspect a bug and this was not intentional.

I have not checked my entire library but doing a quick search of this Action/Adventure genre type almost half my library have it and a good few should not. https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/438145-black-47 being another example.

Lets take Battle Beyond the Stars (1980) — The Movie Database (TMDB) as the example. When you check the Genre for this movie on TMDB its set with Science Fiction but when the metadata gets to plex Action/Adventure has been added.

We’re not only using TMDB, but other sources too. For example this specific movie has action and adventure on IMDB: Battle Beyond the Stars (1980) - IMDb

Can I ask why when I have set the agent to get its data from TMDB ?

There is no such setting. If you’re referring to Ratings Source that only affects ratings.

BTW… not sure what Action/Adventure actually means. Could be a bug and most likely should be split as two genre types action and adventure , like below.

As we get our data from multiple sources some work was done a while ago to consolidate our genres, one of the decisions at the time was to merge action and adventure due to how some sources provided the genre. I’ve queried this decision as I’m not exactly fond of it myself, I’ll open dialog with the team next week regarding this and see if there isn’t a better solution.

@drzoidberg33

Can you also please answer my question about the double matches from IMDb and the updated TMDB Metadata?

Thanks!

I’m not sure how that would happen honestly. The next time you run into this could you reproduce the problem and then immediately grab the logs and post them here.

Thanks @drzoidberg33, I get what you are saying and let us know what if anything comes from your decisions.

I know I’m probably in the minority but the fact the new agent uses so much consolidation of its data from multiple sources is now a downside for me. I really wish we could just set the source of one location (like we had previously with the legacy agent) and get all the metadata from it but understand that will not happen.

I know I can use TMDB agent but that also has downsides as it does not pull reviews and is significant slower.

I guess I need to decide myself which is better of the two evils.

@drzoidberg33
Thanks for the quick reply
This is what i mean. The bottom match with the “meta description (plot)” i have added myself to TMDB. The first match, was already added in the past (by someone else) on IMDB. At first only the version from IMDB was showing in the new plex agent. After 24 hours also the one from TMDB showed up but was’nt merged together with the IMDB version.

I checked and i have added “IMDB’s external id” to the correct field on TMDB
i’ve got like 20 movies with the same problem.

Thanks!

Thanks for the example. I think I know what’s happening here, I’ll follow up this week.

Many thanks!

Any news on this?

Thanks!

There is an internal issue open for it, not sure exactly when it will be fixed though.

Does anyone have a solution to the action / adventure bug?
