New Plex Agent is Slower to pickup changes from Source Metadata Sites like TMDB

Server Version#: Version 1.20.1.3252
Player Version#: Version 4.41.1

While doing testing of the new plex agent I have noticed that the new agent is significantly slower to pickup changes from the online sources it uses.

For example, changes to TMDB are detected by plex within 24hrs when using the legacy agent but after almost 5 days some changes I’ve made are not detected using the new agent.

As one example (but there are many I can give) https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/703771-deathstroke-knights-and-dragons has had cast members added to the movie and avatars added to them (Faye Mata as an example). The new agent has not picked them up yet after many days:

Legacy Agent:

Logs can be shared if needed but this appears to be a backend problem with the plex cache servers not being refreshed regularly.

@drzoidberg33 fyi…

Thanks for the report and it shouldn’t really take longer than 48 hours. There was a recent issue with our internal metadata cache which may have affected this, I’ve asked for somebody to look at this. Will get back to you when I have more.

@drzoidberg33 any update ?

The new agent is definitely failing behind.

The movie The Owners (2020) The Owners (2020) — The Movie Database (TMDB) is failing to get any data from TMDB. Looks like its fallen back to rotten tomatoes to get some data from the movie.

Nothing yet, this should be resolved by next week though.

Okay but would it really be resolved or is this just a rolling problem that will continue to happen ?

Its next week and this agent is now a week and still counting behind when it comes to meta data.

Its getting to the point now where I’m considering ditching the new agent and going back to the legacy one. New movies like The Owners are just a mess as they don’t even get any data from TMDB.

There were some long running jobs on our side last week so I didn’t want to follow up until those had completed.

I’m pinging the folks again about this now.

Mmmm – and are these one off long running jobs or part of the design ? From the testing I have done over the past few weeks this seems to happen often enough.

@drzoidberg33 15days now and counting and still waiting for updates to come throught. The example I used to start this post is still happening along with the owners content rating.

The new plex agent seems fundamentally flawed in refreshing changes made from the online sources it uses to mine its meta data.

I’ve got an issue opened for the credit thumbnails, it’s complicated due to how we merge our data sources and it’s not related to how often the data is refreshed. This isn’t my wheelhouse but I’m in conversation with the devs who are working on this.

@anon5074910 Some changes were made a little while back to prefer TMDB as the primary source for actors which should resolve some of these missing thumbnails you’re seeing.

Could you check on your end?

@drzoidberg33 yeap and thanks the actor avatars do seem to have fixed themselves but its still much slower with this new agent to see updates made on TMDB come to plex than on the older legacy agent. I’d hope overtime this will improve.

There are also some oddities and I’m not sure how wide spread it is as I’ve been busy to fully investigate. One is related to the The Owners movie I referenced above. It still comes in as NOT RATED in plex when I updated TMDB weeks ago. Full plex dance has been done a few times already to no avail.

Thanks, I’m investigating this one now.

What is your certification country set to?

Its set to Ireland.

Oh – I just noticed the rating is now missing for Ireland on TMDB. Let me add it again and see if that helps.

@drzoidberg33 made the change on TMDB – let me see how long this one takes to get to plex. We can use it as a testcase :slight_smile:

Will let you know, thanks.

@drzoidberg33 as an fyi… made a bunch of changes to ratings last friday and over the weekend – none of which have made it yet to plex – 4 days and counting for the first of the changes

I got the same problem. When using the new “Plex movie agent” the updated TMDB (actor)metadata wont get detected.
With the “Plex Legacy agent” it was detected after 24 hours.

My certification country is the Netherlands

Stilling waiting – day 6 now …
