New Plex Experience on Shield TV - feels like an alpha

Server Version#: 1.41.6.9606
Player Version#: 2025.12.0 (9828368) / 10.26.1.123

So we just got the new Plex experience on our Shield TV, and it’s like an alpha release. I’ve read plenty of posts here and on Reddit about it not being ready, but I wasn’t expecting it to be that bad. My wife wanted to know why Plex was broken, and initially I thought she just needed to get used to the new UI. Nope, it’s broken. Here are the glaring issues we’ve noticed (none of which we were experiencing before getting this update):

Slow

The app is slow to load and often hangs on various screens.

Missing Media

The home screen regularly says there’s no media or some issue connecting to the server. Navigating away and back eventually resolves it.

Double Select Sound

The selection (and possibly navigation) buttons make the sound twice quickly instead of once.

Pause/Play Issues

The Play/Pause button on the remote will pause playing media, but hitting it again makes it play for a millisecond before pausing immediately (almost like it’s being pressed twice). Actually navigating to the UI Play button and selecting it allows the media to resume.

Can’t Seek

This is broken in several ways:

  1. There’s no way to navigate forward/backwards on the timeline to scrub to the specific spot you want in the playback.
  2. The right/left buttons don’t jump forwards/backwards like they used to.
  3. The fast-forward/rewind buttons on the remote simply restart the current media from the beginning.

Invisible UI Elements

In various areas of the UI (including the home page) when you navigate around there’s an invisible/unusable element the selection “lands” on (you hear the sound and the selection highlight disappears), then if you continue on it pops up on the actual section you were navigating to. This is normally between sections.

This was published to the beta channel by accident and should no linger be available.

Well, that explains it! Thanks! Hopefully the feedback was useful.
