Slow user interface

What have you done to the interface on Android TV (This is on a Sony TV)

Android app version is 7.26.0.14345

Have just updated to latest beta and now using the interface is like wading through treacle!

It takes a few seconds just to navigate between the on deck items.

trying to browse a large film library is nigh on impossible.

I know its a beta, but this one is pretty much unusable.

Hi there. I just started having this same issue. It’s ā€œalmostā€ unusable.

Sony Bravia Android TV

Version 7.26.0.14345.

so at least it’s not just me.

Hopefully the devs will pick up on this.

In my case my TV Model is a Sony Bravia KD55XD8005

Edit:

AS the interface was so unusable, I have now uninstalled that one and installed/sideloaded the previous beta 7.26.0.14321-beta and the user interface has returned to normal.

So it does seem be an issue with 7.26.0.14345

What is slow exactly?

i.e. is it moving between the ā€œcardsā€ or from home to libraries or…?

Thanks for popping in.

Basically navigating through my libraries.

For example if I viewed the on deck items it takes a few seconds just to navigate between cards

If I tried to view my movie library again it takes a few seconds to move between individual movie cards. It is just very painfully slow.

Having reverted back to the previous beta, the navigation between cards works fine.

Edit:

And from what I can recall navigating thorough the libraries in the left hand nav was slow as well.

Moving down the libraries on the left is kinda slow, moving between the posters is ludicrously slow

I’m seeing the same problem with the same versions. I just went with loading Kodi and using the Plex addin rather than side loading to get back.

Problem is as the OP said, moving between cards takes several seconds. I didn’t even try playing anything yet though just was no longer usable for me in this state.

Once you could actually get to playback that all worked fine.

OK yes the beta app updated on my two Bravia TVs last night, and since then both Plex apps are unusable: loading the user selection screen seems fine, but loading the Home screen after that has the artwork very slowly fading in, and navigation key presses taking several seconds to have any visual reaction. Moving between sidebar options is almost impossible, and I’ve not been able to make it as far as scrolling libraries to test if the issue is there as well. App crashes back to the TV menu usually at this point. Can’t tell if hiding the new streaming ā€˜feature’ would work because I can’t quite get to it. Rebooted the TV, and updated PMS, no change. One tv is on LAN (2018 model) , the other on WLAN, (2016 model).

Back to Plex for Kodi for now. I’m associating the introduction of the new streaming feature with this show stopping bug and its not a positive association.

:scream:

If anyone has time to send me some logs it could help diagnose the issue.

I’m associating the introduction of the new streaming feature with this show stopping bug and its not a positive association.

If it was the ā€œstreaming libraryā€ (which it isn’t), sideloading a previous build of the app (as another user has mentioned above) wouldn’t resolve the the problem.

It’s a beta issue and a bug. We will fix it before the full release of 7.26. If you don’t want to experience beta issues I strongly recommend removing yourself from the beta program.

I didn’t sign up for the beta on my tv

The beta program is per Google account, not device. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about that.

I’m also not signed in to the app with a with google account. I’m signed in with an email address.

The only beta I’ve ever signed up for was the iOS beta which I’m now opted out of

@Erik_the_Red what version of the app are you using?

I was on Android TV 7.26.0.14345 when I had the issues, which I now understand is a beta version is it not? I don’t know how I ended up on that version aside from my TV auto updating. I’ve now sideloaded an older version and resolved this issue.

Also on that latest version, I encountered another highly specific issue which was that EAC3 would not play while the new video player AND passthrough audio was enabled (optical). disable either and files with EAC3 would play fine

I’m seeing this same issue - navigating between video items on the screen prior to launching is taking about 2-3 seconds to move to next icon. my version is 7.26.0.14385. I’ve tried clearing cache & data which hasn’t made any difference. Actual playback of video is working just fine, it’s purely a navigation issue.

I’ve turned on network logging and I will share some logs with you.plexLog.txt (172.6 KB)

experiencing the same issue with android tv client and synology nas server, video playback perfect, but browsing thru thelibrary almoast imposible, after switching to folder view it becomes usable, but not in a poster view of library.(sony KD49XF8596)

Can confirm on this version also. TV decided to update over the working version I sideloaded with version 7.26.0.14345 and experienced the slow interface again. Uninstalled, turned off auto-update, reinstalled working sideloaded version. Fine again now

Had the same issue on beta version. Left the beta program and reinstalled plex on Sony Android TV and working 100% again.
