New Plex Player will not run on Win10 machine

Server Version#: 1.16.5.1488
Player Version#: 1.0 (newly released app)
OS: Win10

I’ve installed and reinstalled the new plex player app a dozen times. Every time I try to run it I get a blank white window that opens up and that’s it. I’ve uninstalled and deleted the plex player folder is appdata as well. I’ve installed with plex media server running and not running. I installed the app on my work laptop just to see if it would work and it installed just fine on that. I’m at a loss as to why to try next.

Hi @geebeeh, do you see anything in your logs that suggest an error?

I think this may be a GL issue similar to that which we see on some Macs. What is your video card/driver?

I took a look at the log but not sure what to really look for. I do see this see this pop up a few times

2019-08-20T16:26:02.176 [ WARN ] [Web] [Settings] Host did not accept 1 or more initial settings {
“success”: {
“player.exclusiveFullscreenAudioEnabled”: null,
“player.hardwareDecodingEnabled”: null
},
“failure”: {
“settings.webInspectorPort”: 2
}
}

Video card is a Nvidia GT 1030 Driver version 436.02

Thanks @geebeeh. Second thoughts, I wonder if you’re hitting a form of this issue: New Windows app launch issue.

I’m going to try to get a test build out this week or early next.

I did see that thread and it sounded similar because of the white screen but I have no issue closing out the window. I’ve been hesitant to delete the folder in appdata though. I see 2 different plex folders in appdata\local. One just “Plex” and the other “Plex Media Server”. I was going to delete the Plex folder but got scared it would mess with my current library as this machine is where all my media is located on as well.

I definitely don’t recommend directly deleting app data directories. You’re right, it’s sensitive.

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex\: Anything in this directory (and subdirectories) is part of the new Plex for Windows app. Your main Plex Media Server application support is stored separately.

Regardless, care should be taken anytime one pokes behind the curtains.

Sounds like I should just sit tight and wait a bit for some bugs to be worked out. Thank you for trying to help in the meantime though!

Don’t ask me why or how but I opened up the app again on a whim and it worked! Except the scaling is way off. Using a 4k TV and everything is tiny but at least it’s working! Thanks again for the help.

Install the latest version and it may fix the scaling issue.

Or try/go back to PMP.

Has there been a new release in the last couple days and is there no way to update the app from within the app?

I dont know what PMP means D:

Plex Media Player

Yes, I just downloaded from plex.tv and installed that way. I don’t know if the client has an update option. Haven’t looked, not happy with new client so I still use PMP on my laptop when I need it.

@geebeeh does the 1.2.1 preview release help with the white screen woes?
