Plex Windows App Not Launching

Server Version#: 1.29.1.1974 (running via QNAP NAS)
Player Version#: 1.29.1.1974

For a while now, I’ve been using the web player since the Windows player will not open. I can install it fine but whenever I try to open it, nothing happens. This is a fairly new computer running Windows 10 pro.

Plex player for Windows was one of the first apps I tried installing after a clean Windows install and it did not work then either. Help is appreciated, thanks!

I have the same issue.
Plex is no longer available on Microsoft Store.
I re-installed from the Plex site and it no longer works.
It installs normally and appears to be installed normally, but when I try to run it, it just sits with a blank screen.

Ditto, downloaded the Windows player from Plex site, installed ok, won’t launch (no error, no popup, nothing in event logs, nada). I’m still using Chrome browser just fine, though.

Note: I’m trying the Windows player because music “play next”, or queue period, doesn’t work.

System: High-end Windows 10 Pro 64GB RAM, Ryzen 3800X 3.9GHz, Samsung 870 M.2 SSDs.

Same here with the last version (1.30.0.2105) on a fresh win 10 pro install.
But work fine with the 1.29.0.1885 version.

Yeah same for the most recent version. Since the update this morning it won’t launch. If I leave it long enough, eventually it will go to a black screen with just a spinning cursor, but that’s it.

I tried clearing all settings from appdata\local\Plex and it lets it launch exactly once (although there are weird flickering issues), but after closing/reopening again, it goes back to being unable to launch again.

Updated Plex for Windows… Now I can’t watch Plex. Where are the previous version downloads?

1.30.0 did fix a first-run startup crash but it was only the first run that should have been affected.

If you’re seeing the app not launch at all, please launch it then provide %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex\Logs\Plex.log. It may include a bit of useful information.

If you’re seeing the app start up to a solid black screen please hop over here: App starting up to blank or solid black screen?

It starts up to a WHITE screen (Not Responding), it never goes black.

Logs and testing information would be really appreciated.

1.30.0 has been rolled back to 1.29.1 on our downloads site. So, first-run crash is back but the new blank screen reports should be eliminated.

Lots of personal info in these logs… I’ll be deleting in 5 min.

Edit: Deleted. DM me for logs if you still need them.

Same here! Log included

Straddling threads, please see this thread for a possible suggestion: Plex running in background but won't open - #4 by mattseeley

I fixed this issue by deleting the appdata for plex

  1. In windows file manager, go to c:\users%your user name%\appdata\local
  2. Delete the Plex folder
  3. Start Plex

The App should now start but you will need to re-login

That actually worked for me, thank you! I don’t know if it coincides with a newer version that was installed, but I think we tried something similar in the past and it didn’t work at that time. It’s opening so far! Thanks!

For those in this thread and others who run across it, please see the test build in Plex for Mac/Windows 1.34.1 Test Builds The white screen is the situation we wish to have tested.
