Server Version#: 1.25.2.5319
Player Version#: Web 4.66.1 (but seems to affect all, or not be player dependent)
I tried the new “Plex TV Series” Scanner (on a new library) and it is missing TV shows in my library that the old “Plex Series Scanner” correctly scans.
The only thing that seems to be consistent is that the shows are missing is the metadata field “Episode ID”. These are shows converted using MCEBuddy version 2.5.
Content with metadata field “Episode ID” seems all to be fine. Movies seems to be fine.
Thanks. That suggestion sent me down the right rabbit hole:
Turns out my files without a number (any number) in the file name does not get picked up by the new “Plex TV Series” Scanner. The old “Plex Series Scanner” does recognize files without numbers in the file name, and uses the embedded meta data.
So any of my existing files that doesn’t have in the file name the season and episode numbers are skipped. Interesting, any number in the file name will make it recognize as a show, though the season/episode is not correct.
My files are sorted into folders by show, then season, then the file name is the episode title.
Must be a limit of the new scanner. If the dev team is taking feature requests, I would like for the new scanner to work like the old scanner in terms of recognizing all file names and using embedded meta data.
Check to see if you have the “Prefer local metadata” option checked for the new scanner/agent.
To do that, hover over the library name in the left menu and then click the 3 vertical dots. From the sub menu click on Manage library and then Edit… In the edit modal click on advanced and then scroll about half way down and check the box for “Prefer local metadata” and then do a metadata refresh for the series with issues and see if it changes.
I believe that option might be off by default if I am not mistaken.
