Issue with new Plex TV series agent / scanner

Server Version#: 1.25.0.5246

I have been having an issue with the new plex media scanner and agent for my TV library. I have 2 seasons of a show. Both season 1 and 2 have the same number of files. While using the new agent scanner it shows the same episode names and watched status for both seasons. If I go to episode 1 of season 2 it has the season 1 name but when played, it plays the correct e02s01. This has been happening for several versions of plex now and only occurs if I use the Plex TV series agent and scanner. If I go back to the legacy scanner and agent, everything shows correctly. The client doesn’t seem to matter IE: different OSs and devices.

This has happened to 2 separate TV series.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this?

Thanks!

If using MP4 files, check that any embedded metadata is correct. You can use MediaInfo or similar tools to view the metadata.

Please show how you have the files named & structured - directory listing, screenshot, etc.

Thanks for the response! They are MKVs and the metadata looks correct. I have uploaded the directory structure with file names. It looks ok to me but maybe something will stick out to you.

season1

I’m sure you have, but have you tried a Plex Dance?

Thanks for the screenshot. Your naming & structure is fine.

As @Blkbyrd mentions, try the Plex Dance. Dance the entire series. Might try putting back one season at a time, waiting for the server to finish before adding another season. Just wait for a season to be added and metadata downloaded. You don’t have to wait for thumbnail generation, intro detection, etc.

I recommend you to change the names of the season folders to use 2-digit numbers.
e.g. Season 01

(unless, of course, when a tv show happens to use 4-digit season numbers)

I would like to add to what @OttoKerner said and say add the year and TVDB or TMDB id to the show also.

I had not yet tried the Plex Dance, but I just did and that seemed to fix it. Thanks for all the help!

Your very welcome! Happy to hear that worked. It seems to fix way more issues than you would think about. It’s the first step I use anytime I have matching problems.
