New QNAP 251A - files not showing in library

I have bought a new 251A NAS after using Plex running on a PC for many years.

Essentially the problem is that after a scan, no files appear in the library/plex dashboard, even though there are files in the folder.

I have done the following:-

  • added plex application to the 251
  • manually added plex update - Running Version 1.12.0.4829
  • added new share on NAS under DataVol1 (i.e. not using default Multimedia share)
  • added the correct folder on the NAS to the plex library
  • I can see the qnap plex server on plex app from the ipad & apple tv
  • manually scanned the folder - but still no files show up
  • during manual scan no errors occur (library scan complete etc)

It appears plex cannot view the files - whilst I have run the same files from the plex PC server with no issues.

Here my library setup:

  1. I’ve created a new share in DataVol1 and named it MyMedia
  2. I’ve created several folders inside MyMedia (Movies, Series, etc)
  3. I’ve created a Movies library in PMS using folder /share/MyMedia/Movies
  4. I’ve created a TV Shows library in PMS using folder /share/MyMedia/Series
  5. etc
    Works very well.

If medias doesn’t show in the library after a scan, then it can be due to:

  • Naming Guide is not followed
  • Exception in scanning (Logs in debug mode will tell)

Solved. Simple but frustrating! I was pointing the library folder to the fixed IP address and folder structure - which worked for my Plex on PC. Now changed to the /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA… folder which has fixed it.
