New Router- Asus GT-AX11000 - Not Available Outside Your Network

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3876
Player Version#: 4.47.3

I have had my Plex server set up for 7 years in my old house. We recently moved and I needed to upgrade the wifi in the house. I went wifi 6 with the Asus GT-AX11000 for my needs. I don’t know what is happening but It will not allow my Plex server to connect. I have tried auto and Manual. I have the port number in the Router but it still wont work.

The server will say online, then 5 seconds later it switches to Not available outside your network. I was hoping someone with a Asus router has run into this issue and has a solution to it. I appreciate it in advance!

Did you assign the Plex Server a static IP address or reserve an address in the router?

Please show a screenshot of the port forwarding rule in the router.

Please show a screenshot of the remote access page from your Plex server. Cover any public IP addresses. Do not cover any port numbers or local addresses (ex: 192.168…).

Thanks for the info.

In your port forwarding rule, add an internal port of 32400.

Then in Plex Remote Access, disable / re-enable remote access.

Same results.

The strange part is, The phone sees the content over cell signal. But players on anything else outside my network fail to connect

When watching on the phone, does the connection show as Indirect in Plex Dashboard (Activity -> Dashboard)? If so, that is a connection via Plex Relay. The stream is going through a server at Plex.

Plex Relay is used when remote access is not available. It can be disabled in Settings -> Network if desired (but there no requirement to do so, and it is a nice backup to remote access).

Are you running a VPN on your Plex server? If so, shut it down.

On the Asus home page (Network Map) you should see a WAN IP address listed for your router.

  • Is it 100.64.x.x?
  • Is it one of the RFC 1918 private addresses? 10.x.x.x.; 172.16.x.x - 172.31.x.x; 192.168.x.x
  • Does it match the public IP address shown in Plex Remote Access settings?

Wondering if your ISP is using CGNAT or something similar.

If no VPN & no CGNAT, then try rebooting your server & network gear.

  1. Shutdown your Plex Server.
  2. Power off all routers, switches, etc. Wait a minute for everything to fully power off.
  3. Starting with your ISP modem / router / etc, power things back up. You want to work from the wall out, so to speak, towards your Plex server. Wait for each device to fully boot before proceeding.
  4. Power on your Plex server, start PMS if it doesn’t auto-start.
  5. After PMS fully starts up, check remote access status.

It is possible for remote access to be working OK and the Plex status screen show it as unavailable.

You can check remote access via canyouseeme.org.

  • Go to the site using a browser on your Plex server (or any other system on your home network).
  • Replace the default port 80 with your remote access port, 32400.
  • Click Check Port.

The web site will try to reach your Plex server on the remote access port. You’ll see a “Success” message if things are working correctly.

I will attempt this when everyone is off work today. I will report back. As for checking the ports, the tool said it can NOT see an open port on 32400
