New Samsung Tizen App Preview

Can we have some improvments in the interface next time? Everything look rough, the resolution looks like 480p (even it shows 1080p in the settings), the menu is huge, the fonts are blury, everything is much bigger than it should be, specially in our 4k TVs.

Also, I really like the timings bellow the progess bar, now we just have time elapsed and total time , I think we could have more info, may even with labels or not. At the start, time started and time elapsed below it, and at the end, time it will finish and time left below.

I know the backlog must be huge, but two more things: I’m missing the stop (x) and info (i) buttons.

Early Access is now available on my Samsung 43TU8002! Yes. Thank you very much.
One negative things is, that some selection highlight is blacked out and not yellow as others.
I cannot take a picture of it, put for example when I press the back button to close the app the highlight bar and the text is blacked out on “Exit” text. They are full black. On my other tv that the highlight bar is yellow and the text is white and visible. I can close the app anyway just the selection is not clearly visible.

Unfortunately I’d deleted that show. But here’s another one - this behaves a little differently. If I skip forward 30s at a time using the -> on my remote (to skip the lead in before the show starts), it hangs after the 4th skip on “buffering”.

I entered the preview. The app could not find my local Plex servers, indicating they were “unavailable.” I exited back to the old app, and all was good.

I’m facing the same issue on my Samsung TV. Live TV is not workIing in the early access version.

I’m using a 2020 Samsung TU8000 and just enabled the preview today. For subtitles, I noticed a few lines of text not displaying on the movie. Almost like it’s skipping some of the subtitles. I double checked on my PC to confirm it was not an issue with the subtitles.

Just to confirm, I built a new Plex server at my lakehouse and both of my Samsungs out here are unable to play live TV no matter what livestream and directstream settings are. So that is a separate server and separate Samsung TVs unable to play live tv in the early access app.

Hello,
SSA subtitle support is very basic and lots of effects aren’t showing and I just get no subtitle sometimes.

I also have the same issue. The play button for live tv is just unresponsive. When I downgrade the version everything works fine again.

Hi,

I’m using Plex on a 2020 QE55Q80T television. I had the problem that when playing a movie with DTS 5.1 audio the video is direct stream but the audio is transcoded to AAC which after a few minutes causes the video stream to stutter but the audio plays continuously without any problem.
The new version 4.29.7 fixed this issue, the same movie can be played with transcoding the audio, no change on the server side only the client was updated.
Then I entered the early access, that makes the original problem worse. With the client version 5.0.10 the video starts to stutter almost immediately not after some minutes. Left early access and the movie can be played again.

As far as I know Samsung stopped supporting DTS like 3 years ago, so the transcode will always happen if you choose DTS audio. Maybe it’s your server that can’t transcode fast enough

I think it stopped supporting in 2018
2017 had it. My TV has DTS, and the Samsung client for plex does support it.

If it is important, you should get a Roku or HTPC

Until recently the Samsung client was convenient to me. Mostly play music and look at photo library on it. For the most part I use Plex Media Player on a HTPC to watch movies.

The preview client with the new updates, assuming they get them fixed, may change my habits.

However most of my library is DVD resolution with about 10% BluRay, and no 4K (I cant tell diff between 4k and 1080p

Does anyone know when the next release of the Samsung client preview will be?

I got a new TV last week and was very excited about retiring my trusty RasPlex box and use the native app on the TV.
I constantly running into transcoding issues … like so many out there.
So I wanted to get ‘early access’ a try. It can’t even connect the PMS. It’s on the same network on an openmediavault docker container. Version of the PMS is 1.19.4.2935
TV is a QE75Q85RATXZG, Tizen 5
firmware … T-MSMDEUC-1356.2
App version 5.0.10

Any ideas how to make the two talk to each other?

In the preview when the show themes are added back, I’d like it if the show themes weren’t restarted when you click a different season of a show or go back to the show folder to see all seasons.

I’m also having the same issue. The first preview I tried for Samsung TV’s worked fine, then it stopped working after the latest update, and I’ve just been waiting for it to be fixed.

@sLumpy
Just making you aware of this issue. Live TV is unresponsive and will not play on the latest preview.

I know It’s not supporting DTS so transcode happens. That’s not the problem as I wrote in my message. When transcode happens after some time the video starts to stutter and it’s not a problem for the server transcoding since the transcoded audio can go forward but the direct stream video is what goes with 1 fps. With the version 4.29.7 this problem disappears so I really doubt it’s a server side issue. This problem was long existing and there are several topics about it. Before 4.29.7 it couldn’t play, with 4.29.7 it plays as it’s should with the preview app the problem even worse and meanwhile the server is exactly the same so I’d say it’s a client issue.

Samsung KS7000 (2016).

I couldn’t see anyone raising this here so far but the new app buffers with SRT subtitles for me. If I switch back to the old version, it’s fine.

I’ll do some more testing tonight and post back with filenames that can be tested (or samples).

My TV can decode DTS because it’s supported (before Samsung dropped it part way through 2017 iirc) so hopefully it keeps this ability going forwards.

Hi @LordMrcS,

I have also noticed the same problem with subtitles on my side at times, so just adding my TV details here

Were you able to get the file? Did it help any?
