Wow, I just found the new "Auto / Direct Play / Transcode" options for transcoding. Awesome!
Now that there is a way to really force transcoding to occur, several files I had been having trouble with, as described in my previous posts, all play perfectly.
Is it possible that Transcoder Action menu be available in pre-play screen after Sub/Audio? It would save lot of trips to settings and back...
Because I have three types of video one require directplay to display closed captioning one require transcode to display subtitles (using external sub) and one require Auto to play MKV files (such as sports game)
Of course it would be global not individualized setting which would be a pain in the neck.
this is exactly what i was having trouble with.. i have alot of series that are mp4 with subs and they need to be transcoded to appear so i moved it to the pre play screen on my setup
when i click transcode it changes Transcode method.. only downside is that i need to reload the pre play screen when i have clicked to se wich one that si current cause the text only changes when refreshed, but atlest i dont need to back out all the way to settings page
Although there should be a menu to select which transcoding setting like we do with Audio/Sub
So you don't have to click then back out of preplay and go back in...
yes that would be the best, i tried to write one using same model as they use on the sub/audio button but as they explained it to me "they you havto write a script that can handle the js files" so it was kinda time demanding to do.. i am using this until the sub render are up and running :)
As far as I am aware subs and closed captions are essentially the same thing but labelled slightly differently to differentiate them, so a renderer would solve for both.
I record some shows with EyeTV which include cc then export to ATV and using transcode, it won't show, using auto, it won't show, so it has to be "directplay" so it use ATV2's cc decoder to display the cc.
the file extension is m4v not mp4. When you open a exported m4v file that have cc in quicktime, you won't see "text" in inspector window as it is not a text track. It is a EIA-608 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EIA-608) It is a line 21 not a text track. I doubt subtitle renderer will display that... So I still need to use directplay method.
Hmm for me the issue is the PMS should be direct playing these files the on the auto setting, maybe the profile needs updating. What happens if you change the file extension on one if these tracks to .mp4 and then try and play it on auto?

Well, now it seems to be working on auto setting. I think it has to do with PMS release... good thing about PlexPass though...
As for changing the file extension, I haven't done that yet but m4v is similar to mp4 and I am sure it will work either in directplay or auto setting.
New to Plex Connect, so just wondering why my movie pre-play screen doesn't show those other options like Audio/Sub, Transcode etc in the screenshot above, mine only shows Play, Trailer and More....
Would love to know where this can be configured, many thanks in advance.
I believe audio/subs button appears if needed (when there are options to select). The other two buttons, transcode and set status are custom additions that Stoffez added himself and are not visible in the standard Plexconnect setup. Same goes for the background image. It appears that Stoffez likes showing off his handiwork so he posts screenshots like this to confuse people
Just checked and the Audio/Subs button appears when subtitle and alternate audio tracks exist. It does not appear when there are no subs and no other audio tracks.
