this is terrible. they must want people to switch to jelly fin. please at least give us the option to use the previous interface. I’ll wait a couple of days if not I’m going to jellyfin
Maybe I’m being idealistic, but it would really be nice if some Plex representative would chime-in stating that they’ve heard all these complaints, and what (if anything) they intend to do about it (hint, hint). If they choose to restore the old app, I can wait and assume they’ve learned a lesson. If they choose not to do anything, at least I have an answer and will start looking for another media server solution. But this complete silence is showing Plex’s apathy toward their loyal (and paying) customers.
UI/UX team did a great job making some of the worst decisions possible! They must have hired a new executive; they love to change everything for the sake of change. So, they can say, look what I did! I am so smart, S M R T (Hommer Simpson).
Right now, they are patting themselves on the back with this guy.
Please, for the love of God, roll back this stupid UI change. I don’t want to go through On Demand. I want to watch my, and my friends’, libraries. I miss the sidebar.
Adding my 2 cents here as well. This latest Roku interface update is garbage. Why do I have to navigate so many menus just to get to my alphabetical lists of tv shows and movies? My parents use my plex on their TVs and they are not going to understand this interface and they’ll stop using it. I don’t want to use it anymore either, I’d rather just use the web interface on my PC.
As a supporter of Plex from the beginning and Lifetime subscriber from when first offered (to support them going forward) I can see now they no longer need us long timers. Worst thing is I’ve touted Plex to a couple of dozen people who are now subscribers (I’m crafting apology messages right now and I’m tell them I will let them know whether I switch to Jellyfin or Embry) Welcome to the new way of doing business con people into supporting early then dump them for higher profit targets.
Pretty much this. There hasn’t been a support person in here in like 24 hours.
Are there any other companies the size of Plex who will ignore thousands of complaints like this? It’s so pathetic and unprofessional. Clearly the high IQ individuals who used to be in charge are long gone. Money obsessed dimwits are now running the show and ironically they will completely destroy the brand. FIRE THE DUMBASS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS.
Lifetime Plex Pass member here. I’ve started looking at Jellyfin today. I’ve enjoyed Plex for years but the Roku update is difficult to use and prioritizes Plex’s content over my own, which is the opposite of what I want. Even after turning off all of the Plex content, accessing my libraries is now more difficult, slower, and just a poor experience overall.
Clearly by posting on here about not encountering any bugs, I’ve angered the gods! I didn’t realise that Plex have also changed the layout within each season of each TV show: there’s now a “Season” thumbnail, to the left of the first episode of that season, which wasn’t there before.
I’m not sure what the intended purpose of that new thumbnail is (if you want to play the whole season, then why wouldn’t you just play episode 1 first?) but the practical effect of it is as follows: when I click on it by mistake, instead of scrolling across to Episode 1, Plex grinds to a halt, crashes the Roku OS altogether and I have to power cycle my TV.
This feels like Bad UI Design 101: a confusing and unnecessary change which makes it harder to use the app at the best of times, and which is also broken on a technical level, causing a crash when used in exactly the way that a user would instinctively use it.
I’ve been one of the more civil voices in this thread, and now I’m sitting here baffled, frustrated and installing Jellyfin on my server. I know the update’s only been out for 24 hours but Plex seriously needs to get a hold of things.
unfortunately jellyfin as of right now doesn’t have a apple silicon native app, like plex does for server.
I suspect any competent talent has been laid off already… The remaining devs are probably vibe coding this whole thing to try to make it work, and we all know how that ends up. lol
If I could chargeback the lifetime pass, I would, honestly. The nature and usability of the service has changed drastically. This isn’t what I’d paid for.
Don’t click that Season # icon thumbnail. This is the bug! Once you do that, all hell breaks loose. You’ll have to uninstall the app and reinstall it on your Roku to reset it.
I’ve replicated this bug multiple times. I’ve also submitted it to Plex forums
Adding my voice to the many angry ones. This is especially frustrating for those of us with young kids. They have no idea how to navigate this pile of garbage and just tell me “daddy the plex is broken!”
Indeed, it is broken son.
Will be researching alternatives.
Awful, just awful. Mine even seems functional, but Jesus Christ I hate this layout design. F-minus all around.
Once in a library the up down left right ceases to work. All I can do is exit which I did until this is completely reversed back to the old version
I want the old UI back. It’s way too hard to navigate the libraries.
You will have to uninstall the Plex app and reinstall it. This will resolve your issue.
however, DO NOT click on the Season thumbnail picture. This will bring back all your remote button issues again!!!
Just don’t do it!!! It’s a bug.
See here:
They seem to be speedrunning turning all their customers away. First they destroyed the mobile app, now this? Why do they want us to leave so badly?
Undo this or we’ll all be seeking alternatives.
