Yep, that’s what the folks at Plex don’t seem to understand. A large majority of people use Roku devices because they’re probably about the easiest to use (next to maybe an Apple TV), and they’re relatively expensive. Especially for non-technical people.
Plex has thrown all that knowledge out the window with this release.
I fear that Plex loses nothing when its lifetime subscribers flee to Jellyfin. More’s the pity. I suspect that the people they really care about use Discovery, LiveTV, etc. And that community isn’t here in the forum and probably doesn’t suffer from the breaking changes heaped upon us.
Yes, I’m having to tell my 95 year-old father, really the main “client” of my server, that he’s out of luck for viewing my Plex Media content from now on. This will ensure that I turn my to-Jellyfin experiment a year ago into a full effort. I paused Jellyfin because I still liked Plex more.
I just got the new interface yesterday on my Roku. It is terrible and completely ruins what was an easy and responsive experience. I really ONLY want my files and content. I have no interest in on demand, Plex TV, streaming or anything else, yet this is all in front of me and I have to click numerous times to get to what I want.
Give me customization control, or let me roll back
I have an even worse issue, I pay for the service and I can’t skip intros/credits, I can’t even pause the movies or fast forward or anything. I use roku.
This update might be the reason i needed to move to Jellyfin and cancel my plexpass. It has been getting worse and worse for a while but now it is unusable on the roku.
I am not completely blind, I can still enjoy watching movies and TV but if the text on an app is too small I just can’t navigate it. This is what you have done with this new UI for roku plex. I could easily navigate to my playlists and see what I wanted to see. You have made all this so difficult for us that can’t see that I think I need to just stop using plex and move to something else. I would be great if you gave us the choice to change to this new awful UI. Now it’s just too hard to navigate. Once again people with disabilities have not even been given a single thought. Yeah I know roku can talk to you. Have you heard that voice? I gives me anxiety.
Why is the lifetime pass stopping you? Jellyfin is currently free and it can access your existing media. It will cost you nothing to switch. I believe that they are counting on this attitude or thought process. I have been a lifetime member since they started offering the lifetime pass many years ago but am now looking at Jellyfin and Emby as well as a functioning substitute. I am fortunate that I really only use Plex as a DVR and do not share my server to the outside world so switching is not as difficult for me since it can access my plex recordings in house.
I don’t think anyone will actually read it.. Look at how much negative feedback theyve gotten regarding this new user experience since it was unleashed earlier this year. They dont care. They are doing this whether we like it or not. If this was a really a matter of unifying the code base, the real irony is that they COULD have taken the approach of replicating exactly what we had before in functionality and then branched from there to provide alternate UIs that some users might like, but always with the option to revert if we didn’t want it. That would have been the appropriate way to go about it, but at this point I’ve come to expect complete and utter incompetence from Plex, its leadership, and its developers.
As I said last night on another thread when I discovered the Plex Roku app update, it sucks. Seriously considering moving off of Plex to Emby or other solution for many of the reasons others here have stated. It’s almost like Plex got no feedback from users and did little testing before rolling out this monstrosity. Was a PP subscriber and then got a lifetime a few years back and have been very happy with Plex up to this point. It’s a shame that Plex decided to flush all of the good will they’ve built up on a boneheaded maneuver like this. I look forward to the rollback or moving to a new platform.
Thats the irony though… go back and look at the incredible amount of negative response they got from the early release of this new UI earlier this year. People complained loudly, but Plex chose not to listen.
