New UI is an awful experience

I have to add my voice to this monstrousity. I cannot believe Plex released this POS. I Have three Rokus and the experience is inconsistent on each, the UI is flat out unresponsive on my Livingroom TV it won’t move to any menu item on the left and inconsistently moves to top menu items. A bedroom TV at least moves to menu items but the selected item isn’t even readable, instead of highlighting it they make it so dim that the words fade into the background. On top of all of this crap nothing is intuitive at all. The team that put this together should be fired period and the managers that approved it also given the boot.

I am really disappointed that Plex management released this crap to their customer base. You guys have a serious internal problem with quality control and decision making.

@McWanke There are numerous posts about this with hundreds of comments. Are you guys paying attention or going to respond?

I’ve got users on my server all confused and find the app impossible to navigate. I do not want these changes coming to the GoogleTV app as mandatory, as it is I’m trying to find a way to revert them on Roku so my users can get back to using the system in a way that is intuitive and makes sense. I need to know if this is going to remain mandatory and permanent… I dont want to have to regret buying lifetime. This really sucks.

I agree. The new gui went on my tablet a couple weeks ago but roku was old format. I was hoping it wouldn’t change but today it appeared to my disappointment. Totally useless. I want lists not thumbnails for browsing.

My partner literally told me to find something other than Plex within two minutes of trying to use this new layout.

This is absolutely horrible, Plex has released several really lousy updates but this takes it to a whole new level. The UI redesign is terrible but I could adjust to it if that was the extent of it. Unfortunately the Roku app is completely unusable. SLOW, laggy, remote stops responding, everything I use is buried now with more clicks required. Back in the spring they ruined the Android app so badly that I stopped using Plex on my tablet and now they have wrecked the Roku app. This finally pushed me over the edge and I installed Jellyfin tonight and will begin evaluating it. This is not the experience I paid for, I used to recommend Plex to everybody, I stopped doing that after the Android app experience and now they are going to alienate all of their users trying to turn it into something that nobody wants.

what a broken mess. not only does it look like garbage, pausing no longer works, unable to move from play button over to options to play from start etc. ‘ok’ button no longer works to start play, only the actual play/pause button. I can literally hear the ping sound from trying to hit pause during a show but it doesnt pause. who tested this garbage before it was released?

The new version of the Plex for Roku is horrible - let us downgrade until it is fixed.

Throwing in my 2 cents, not that it will make a difference - absolute unusable garbage. Don’t try to fix things thst aren’t broken. Cracker Barrell anyone?

Thanks to the new Plex UI update, I finally jumped to Jellyfin! It has simple clean UI that is tailored to data on my system.

Plex used to be good, then they decided to be copycat..

Luckily I still have a PS4 attached with the Plex app and its still rocking the previous UI. I will most likely use that until they pull their head out of their butts and fix this or its Emby or Jellyfin for me.

My elderly parents love using Plex on there Rokus to watch and today I had a difficult conversations with them try to re teach them all over again on how to use this new UI which is by far the worst design Plex has ever done. I will bet you 1 dollar some young kid thought up this idea to make it seem like it was a stream like apple or android tech idea and when I fact made it a downfall choice for Plex.

A lot of elderly folks don’t go on Plex forms or internet website for help but I know they to are struggle with massive problem. PLEX need to revert back or else they will lose so much more then long time followers and community but a a lot of bad press and friends

I agree with the new UI. It looks like ■■■■. I was ready to cry and scream. I prefer all of my libraries on the left side and this made me download Jellyfin. When Hulu changed their UI i said i’m done and i canceled my subscription. SMDH!

Congratulations to Plex on their new app design. It has encouraged me to try out Jellyfin!

The point is that most of us use Plex to manage and share our own content, and that should be considered every time UI changes are considered. Our libraries need to be quickly accessible regardless of how many we choose to create. The Plex developers shouldn’t be making changes that don’t still smoothly meet those needs, even as they forge ahead with additional On Demand content.

You can’t even disable discover and and such anymore :frowning:

Like 100% of other Plex users (seriously, can you point to a single example of anyone saying they LIKE these changes?), I’m absolutely furious that another horrible Plex update has been FORCED upon me. The 8.6 (Build 4) upgrade pretty much ruined everything I enjoyed about Plex on Roku. None of my theme music, whether for TV shows or Movies, will play now on the Roku app (though it still does on the desktop/Web version of Plex, but what good is that, since I want to use my TELEVISION to watch my media?!), and I spent ages customizing theme songs for my entire media library.

The new user interface is also absolute garbage, as they eliminated the convenient and simple-to-use vertical list of pinned library “channels”/categories on the left side of the screen in favor of a stupid horizontal list/bar that takes a few extra clicks even to access.

What’s more, they even eliminated the wallpaper/background art and matching color schemes that I had set up for all of my movies!

I also don’t ever want to see “Live TV” or “On Demand” or “Discover” or anything else that I will never use and have NO interest in, Plex. Give us back the option to hide this useless clutter from our menus/home screens, etc.

These awful updates should be OPTIONAL rather than being imposed upon everyone against their will, Plex. Give users the option of using the classic Plex GUI that so many of us are so accustomed to using and enjoying. As it is, you have rudely disrupted our lives for no justifiable reason whatsoever. Nobody asked for any of this. To quote another commenter, you guys apparently operate by the philosophy, “If it ain’t broke, let’s break it!”

With that said, does anyone know if there is any way to install an older version of the Roku Plex app, such as the great Plex Classic, which was discontinued (apparently) a few years ago? Or is there any alternative home media streaming app for Roku that works like the OLD Plex (when it was great), and that will play custom theme music (i.e., simply by dropping an mp3 in the root directory of a TV show or Movie)?

Thanks in advance!

I had this issue until I unplugged my TV for a bit. Been ok since.
