New UI is an awful experience

Yep, it’s really bad, there was nothing wrong with the old ‘experience’ I feel like this is just to push people towards monetised content

I was an early poster to this thread: Now I have another query for anyone: most of the posts cite the problem being with the Plex app on Roku devices. Has this same change occurred on AppleTV devices? Undoubtably, the change will probably be migrated to all platforms eventually, but perhaps not. If there is another device that will return the previous UI to my setup, I could see investing in one of those. I have never used any other streaming box but Roku; perhaps I should consider flipping. Not that Roku is guilty of this problem, but perhaps some other platform would give me the “web” experience I still see on my network computers (Windows and Mac mix).

Just adding to the list so hopefully someone at plex sees that the app seems broken on every roku everywhere. At my house we have two Roku Ultra, Two Express and a streaming stick, None are working correctly, the new UI makes my library considerably harder to access. We are not happy.

You could get an android tv device which would allow you to side load a previous version of the app. On apple tv the new experience is currently still in preview.

Could also use jellyfin or emby, but I’d rather not buy six new devices or switch my entire server. Rather get quality service that we paid for.

I run plex and emby side by side connected to the same data. Works without issues. And emby clients are available on quite a few devices.

Seeing that it is in “Preview” on AppleTV is good info (and not at all surprising), as well as the note that I could run Emby alongside Plex on the same server. I have been reading a bit about Emby and Jellyfin as new server platforms today, and will probably roll that out.

The new UI pretty much makes Plex on Roku virtually unusable. I can search for something using voice and only voice but once I find it, I can’t play it. The only things that works is Continue watching. I actually starting using the Plex on my Samsung. At least that is usable but my other TVs that are Roku are done with. Please don’t fix what is not broken or at least give us the choice to go back the working UI. I will have to leave Plex if they don’t change it because it is unusable. Really sad about this.

Agreed. It’s basically unusable. I’ve had to use the Plex app on my phone to launch a movie. So if I’m at work my wife and kids can’t watch anything. As someone that bought the lifetime subscription I am extremely unhappy. Honestly considering switching to jellyfin next week if this isn’t fixed.

I have to say this has to be the worst “functionality” update I have seen in my 20+ yrs of IT!
The personal libraries should have stayed on the left like it is in the web GUI version. Most users don’t want the "Online Media Sources” on their home screen. That’s what a smart TV is for.
Not to mention the loss of updating/scanning a library functionality from the app itself!

This new update made Plex unusable on my Roku!!!
Please revert back to the last stable version.

Add my voice to the growing chorus that this update is complete trash. I will be experimenting with both jellyfin and emby this weekend I guess.

I never use the forums. Plex pass for life. And I had to come pile on. This is by far the worse in like 8 years of using Plex on the Roku. Sluggish, and that home screen is especially heinous. Star button should allow you to immediately remove everything you don’t want, and you should be able to pin anything else to home. Navigation added from one to several extra steps. Spring loaded being on by default is also absolutely terrible especially on large libraries. Usually getting to a playlist took me like 3 clicks. Now it’s like 12. Roll it back, and rethink this entire thing, the ergonomics are abyssymal.

You can RE-scan a library from the app by pressing * on your remote when your “cursor” is on the library selection menu.

I’m also very disappointed in the new Plex app on Roku. Please revert it back and scrap this idea/design. Everything worked well for my house on the old design. I had the libraries and services I used pinned and could easily find what I wanted to watch or listen to. Now its a frustrating experience trying to find items in my libraries.

And since the update the Play/Pause button on my Roku remote will now no longer pause things playing in Plex.

Any chance this New UI is for those who don’t have their own PMS servers.

When you get to a tv show season where you can select shows. The buttons below a show don’t work like mark played or delete. Plex on Roku. Lots of other stuff doesn’t work either. I can’t navigate the search window at all.

They have turned Plex into a pig trying to make it a streaming platform. I have Plex for my media only and now it is super sloooowwww while it loads gobs and gobs of garbage I don’t care about. Please let us turn off all your new terrible ideas.

I also came just to go “WTF was that?” There have been some horrible updates in the past, but this one takes the prize. “We moved everything! Where is it? Nobody knows!”

For some reason Plex wants everyone to move to Jellyfin, I just can’t figure out why? But apparently Jellyfin is great and you can run it side-by-side with Plex to test it out. This is the first time I’ll be looking into it, my lifetime pass held me back before. But this update is just dumb … it’s like they are letting MBA’s run the company now

OK so it’s not just me. I logged in on my Roku last night and was totally lost. I run a Plex server in the basement and my personal libraries are all I care about, I cant get to half of them. The top menu bar sucks and then Plex crashes and exits if I click the three dots to go other directories. This is terrible, and I did not ask for this or make any update. I did notice that if I log in to my servers from computer, the web browser version seems the same, but my Roku is wrecked beyond use. After 5 minutes of jacking around and crashing out, I just turned it off and went to bed. It literally wasnt worth trying to even figure out. I liked it exactly the way it was before this.
