New UI is an awful experience

Look at all those ChatGPT em dashes!

You don’t even need to worry about side-loading right now. The current app is still the old interface. Just install as normal and turn off auto-updates.

Just adding one more to the chorus of voices saying: Please roll this update back. I was about to use it, but found the experience navigating to what I wanted to watch so frustrating that I felt a better use of my time was to get online and beg to have the old interface back and not even bother watching it. THAT’S HOW BAD IT IS.

Until this Roku disaster from someone who obviously did ZERO research on what people might want, I was considering a Plex Pass. That will never happen now. Changes like this are generally the start of the downward spiral of the company. They obviously want to be a Netflix or Prime or Roku offering paid services and are scrapping any care about end users. Time to move on to greener pastures. Too bad, kind of liked Plex.

Seriously! Here, here!

I digitized old television programs that featured jazz musicians, singers, and old variety shows that just aren’t accessible to the mainstream audiences anymore. We can’t trust big media anymore. They are absolutely insane thinking that treating content like a revolving vault similar to Disney’s very own VHS Vault marketing scheme is good business. We all know these tactics are to drive viewership, dump, and erase history. White washing content by erasing or locking it up from viewership hurts them more than they realize. As far as Plex is concerned. They need to make up their minds. Listen to it’s userbase or suffer the final blows of their apps. Shutter if they must. We will continue on without them.

You can actually set your network device IP’s that would totally ignore the authentication entirely, its just dangerous if you have multiple people in the household and share a TV or tablet. If you’re by yourself or only want your TV/Streaming box to not authentic in your specified room, just list the IP in the specific entry field.

Settings > Server > Network > List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth

https://support.plex.tv/articles/200890058-authentication-for-local-network-access/

I would add that it’s rather important to have an Admin account regardless of intent to bypass the server authentication.

J’écris rarement en anglais et j’ai utilisé chatgpt pour traduire mon texte qu’est‐ce que peut bien faire, au lieu de critiquer les autres critique plex avec leur merde d’interface, MEMBRE INUTILE. (t’as l’air de connaître beaucoup chatgpt ta juste à traduire mon texte…)

Can you explain how to do that exactly on a Fire Stick? Turning of auto updates for those of us that don’t know how and who don’t want the Roku Plex disaster to takeover on Fire Stick too when the update inevitably is forced.

It’s a setting in the App Store preferences on the device.

[Profile/Setting Icon] → Applications → Appstore → “Automatic Updates” → OFF

Thank you. This will turn off automatic updates for all apps?

Yes, you can manually update other apps.

Block FireTV and Apple TV from updates

Thanks for that info. Unfortunately, this appears to no longer work as the mobile apps require you to sign in or create an account before attempting to do anything else.

True… I’m just used to doing that automatically. The Firestick that I use on my living room TV has an even older version of the client, where I still have Continue Watching and On Deck, not to mention the nice grid view for TV show episodes.

Just want to tell everyone I cancelled my Plex Pass subscription and I switched to Emby. It’s actually easier to use than Plex now that I understand what I’m doing. I feel genuinely bad for the people who got the lifetime Plex Pass, I thought about doing that and I’m grateful I didn’t.

Here’s where to update your review for the Plex app on Roku:

To add to the garbage I’m getting incorrect show logos (possibly movies, haven’t looked at all of them yet) in the new UI. It will either show the wrong language, or take one that is for a season and make it the logo for the whole show. There is also no way to change it.

Easiest way to fix this is vote to roll back, until they fix the issues! It has made some of my Roku TVs unusable with the Plex app. The only ones that seem to work halfway decent are the Ultras, and even they have issues. We’re not beta testers!

Yes. Plex are very stubborn they want to push their new app even though they know it’s universally hated. The people in charge have huge egos and let’s face it, nobody likes being told their work is garbage even when they know it. So they are never going to roll it back. They could have some common decency and give us the old app back as a separate ‘Plex Classic’ version. This way the new app is still available which is what they want, and those of us that want the old app can keep using it and we all stop complaining.

However, this also comes down to an ego thing. The people in charge at Plex seem very smug and giving us the old back app in any way would be admitting they were wrong and their egos won’t allow it. They also know if they gave it back as a ‘Plex Classic’ option well over 90% of people would immediately install it and use it. And they can’t stand the idea of their ‘brand new shiny app’ just sitting there being ignored.

This is all about Plex’s stubbornness and ego, they literally care nothing about all of the frustration they have caused customers. It’s a company that’s doomed to fail because eventually people will find alternatives and leave. They will also not recommend Plex to their friends after this huge mess.

Agreed, the new UI is a non-intuitive mess. Design completely outweighed function here or user muscle memory. I can’t remember when I have seen a piece of software frustrate their user base this badly. There needs to be an option to revert and then let the users choose which they prefer.
