Came to the forum for the very first time specifically just to complain about this new UI and find out if it was possible to go back to the old one. Absolutely HATE it, so much that if I can’t switch back or get some kind of “use classic mode” option I’m going to dump it for a different program.
I don’t like the new Roku UI at all. Its not easy to navigate in it, the layout makes no logical sense. I preferred the old one over this.
If Plex doesn’t change back to the proper original UI by January 1st of 2026…or they will have to kiss my ass, cause i will terminate my account and remove Plex from my computer. SMDH!
They don’t care at all. They are a terrible company.
Agreed 100% - I’m so disappointed in this new layout and have gone out of my way NOT to use Plex since the update since its so hard to navigate. I hope they fix this soon - its brutal.
This UI is awful just got it on my Roku tv. Unbelievably less intuitive and worse quick searching.
You used to be able to see 10 or so libraries on the screen side bar and you had an idea of which way you were going. Now with the top bar I only see 5 libraries at a time. I have no idea why I’d want Plex recommending me stuff to watch once finally finding the right library. If I wanted to continue watching I’d have done it from the home page, I want my library. Turned what was 7 button presses into a piece of content into 20+.
I may be looking into alternatives even as a Plex pass owner.
EDIT: Thought I was clever and removed favorite of all libraries and it autopopulates 5 libraries unless you keep one. Then you can access the dots menu to have 6-7 libraries on screen at a time. BUT the new home only shows continue watching for favorited libraries, wild. I’ll be doing that until I get around to building an jellyfin server and getting metadata loaded.
I first saw the new UI in the beta version on Roku. It was so bad. I immediately stopped using the beta channel, which I’ve been using for years. Now that it finally made it to the release channel, I figured I would give it some time. Even after two weeks now, I still absolutely hate it. Everything is unintuitive, everything takes more button presses, it’s horrible. When the iOS app went this route, I figured maybe it was something specifically for touch interfaces, but it made no sense there either.
Just contributing that the new user experience is horrible. I’m a lifetime Plex passholder and I have convinced several other people to purchase lifetime Plex passes. None of us are happy about this.
Who on Earth! Designed this new interface. Its so awful! Clearly the person has ZERO education in UI/UX spectrum. Its just, such an awful design!
Why is the home screen “continue watching” screen. There is a reason I didnt finish watching those things! I either dont want to watch them, or plex falsely tagged them as incomplete with 5 minutes of credits left. Homescreen should be configurable, and for me it would ALWAYS be my library, because when I want to watch plex I am picking something from my library.
Previously I could tap left a few times and switch libraries. Now in this god forsaken design libraries are hidden, but on top of that, as the most devious torture device I have to scroll from S or T or even Z, alllllllll the way up, pressing up 100 times to even get a chance to change from TV show library to a Movie library.
Just, awful. absolutely awful. ive been putting up with a lot of Plex’s BS in the last year or so… but now its getting to the point where UI is becoming confusing and unusable. My family cant find anything! I am seriously considering dumping Plex and moving over to Jellyfin now that Jellyfin setup was streamlined and transition is quick and simple.
Go ahead, and waste valuable development time making an already perfect interface awful… waste your time and resources. But give us an option to go back to the old UI in the settings. This is worse than going to Windows 8 touch screen centric UI from Windows 7 on a desktop PC. This new UI is borderline unusable on anything that isnt a touchscreen.
I really dislike the new UI. It’s unintuitive and now is confusing my children and the grandparents. Could you please add an option to revert? If not then I’ll have to look for an alternative. I need something easy to use for children and senior citizens, but I find it annoying as well.
From Best to WORST Media server in the blink of an eye from just an update…. And who is reading and paying attention to all of the negative feedback? I imagine just the sad masses that actually use Plex daily. It doesn’t appear Plex Management does…..
Out of all the tech that I have owned and used in my life this is absolutely the worst change to a nicely built and working app I have ever seen, and I build and repair computers. How sad
And if anyone ever uses the excuse… “People just don’t like change.” Tech or user, that’s just a BS excuse. Everyone lives with change everyday in some sense of the word. The complete overhaul of the Plex UI to look and work like the myriad of other apps is just stupid in my opion. Plex was just simple and intuitive to use that my 94 year old mother could be taught to use it, and she has trouble with new phones….Landline phones.
Reading through the various posts, I know I’m not the only one who faces the challenge of caring for an elderly parent. And let me tell you, the need for a usable phone and TV is very important to my mom. Technology can definitely be a good thing, but getting older and losing a step or two myself these days, I understand her frustration and it is sad how technology can leave many older people behind.
Does any of this mean anything to Plex? Probably not, but in the end The difficult and unintuitive UI change will probably cost you older users by leaving many behind. It may also lose you those younger Plex users who care for their elders as well though. I certainly won’t be maintaining 2 different servers for myself and my mother. I will just find something that she can understand, navigate and I will use it as well. I’ll be reading up on Emby and Jellyfin because those seem to have a large following. But if anyone knows of a easier and “less clicks” UI media server for your own shows and movies, please share them.
New Plex interface is garbage. Please let us choose new or old. This is as bad as our authoritarian government that is coming to us in the US. Plex was pretty great, now not so much.
Piling on. I am on a Sony TV with Google. Plex is a pos now, and ill be uninstalling it in favor of Jellyfish, and ill be instructing everyone in my family to do the same, as well as everyone in the various groups I’m a part of.
I want to open the app and see the content that I put on my server. I don’t want to see everything that is being pushed. Hell, five minutes ago a movie started playing (a “live" movie) and even after leaving the app to go back to my television home screen it was STILL playing in the background, which has never happened.
This sucks that it has to be this way, but taking away the ability to customize our own ■■■■ is how most of us ended up at plex from other services in the first place.
You can’t roll back through Roku. This is where my hatred for the UI lies…not what is installed on my computer.
Not yet, but we’re voting to try and change that. There’s a large part of the community that wants to roll back.
Nothing to add that 500 posts above didn’t already cover, Please roll this back or give an option to use the previous UI.
I’m a little surprised because Android TV didn’t got the new experience yet.
Most UI updates are a nice ‘refresh’ that inhance the uxperience and fix some oddities…this is none of that. I’m for a roll-back.
This update is absolutely awful. Very difficult to navigate or find things. After a week of trying to make it work, I think I’m going to give JellyFin a try.
I have been a user for a few years and it took me 5 minutes to start a movie! Arrow up multiple times to get to the top menu. Over two to libraries. Arrow down and to the left to find movies. Then over to the left menu and Arrow down to browse. Arrow to the right 7 times to get to the alphabetical options. Arrow down 17 times to get to “R” then enter. Arrow to the left 3 times and down once. Enter twice and there is my movie…..
I am going to get a repetitive motion injury tring to start my movie!
You should not have to work that hard just to watch your movies.
