New update 1.32.8.7639 crashing randomly on synology nas

Build 7639

That’s great, thank you!

When fixed / comments in Release Notes: Issue #14691

Maybe revamp the QA as this seems like a common crash result. Frustrating, because it’s not easy to obtain roll-back versions of the server application.

@jasonwoerner - if its any help I use snapshots of the PlexMediaServer folder and have rolled back a few times without issue. They are taken when plex is quiet at 03:00, though I don’t actually stop the service - so either been lucky and its ok to snapshot when running - but either way rollback has been without issue.

NAS Synology 920+ / PMS 1.32.8.7639-7000

Crashing for me as well since the upgrade. I use Live TV / DVR. Not a heavy user but each time I go to use it since upgrade, its stopped on the Synology. I just turned debugging on.

Tuner: HDHomeRun FLEX DUO

I also have a DS214 / PMS 1.32.8.7639-7000

No crash since upgrading. No tuner attached to it however.

Update: On a whim I went to my DVR in settings and hit refresh guide, my plex on this NAS has not randomly stopped since my last post. I hope this helps others.

Update2: OK, it did crash again but that is the longest time its been stable since this update. nearly 24 hrs. If this continues will post logs and/or downgrade.

Update3: Crashing is about 2-3 per day. My work load does not provide enough time to diagnose or roll back but will attempt something once the holiday weekend arrives.

I’ve had exactly the same crashing issue on a QNAP NAS TS-464. HD HomeRun running. Had to roll back to 1.32.7 - now works without crashing. Will wait until the next release before upgrading the server again. Anyone else got a QNAP that knows how to fix the crashing?

Having the same issue beginning the day I installed this release on 12/4.
This topic is marked as solved, but is uninstalling and downgrading the official resolution to this issue? Is this recognized as a buggy release? Is it being worked on? Where can I find updates about the status of this release/bug? Should I start a new topic about it?
Just trying to get a lay of the land.
-Thanks!

Server Version#:1.32.8.7639
Player Version#: 4.116.1
NAS: DS920+, DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 3

i don’t know why this topic is marked as resolved either because last i knew it is still crashing on 1.32.8.7639 and there is still no update past that with any fix, Only thing like you said that “fixes” it is rolling it back to previous version which i have done and have had no crashes since but it is odd that rolling back a buggy version is the “solved” fix.

I am just going to wait for 1-2 builds past current to go by and see if it is fixed or listed in release notes as fixed before upgrading and even then i will keep my old copy of previous build just in case.

ALL:

Don’t know how/why this got marked as solved; it is not yet solved.

I have cleared the SOLVED flag.

Any idea when the next release will be? I’m stuck on 1.32.7 until I can see a positive update here…

You can subscribe to the PMS release announcement thread to be notified of new releases. Scroll to the bottom of the thread and change Normal to Watching.

Per ChuckPA’s earlier post, look for Issue #14691.

Where can I find lower version as I didn’t keep it when I did current install?

@FanBoy21

Which would you like and which NAS model / binary ?

I have a DS416play. With INTEL Celeron N3060 running DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 5. Looking for whichever version is previous to 1.32.8.7639 that just keeps crashing PMS. I know now to keep each update in case I ever have to rollback.
I saw in forums that 1.32.7.7621 is working and not crashing for a member

Using a DS720+ with HD HomeRun for live TV it was crashing approx. once per day with no pattern I could see. Rolled back to ‘6999’ and its worked flawlessly - transcodes, recording etc… all fine. See Hardware Transcoding issues - ApolloLake & GeminiLake CPUs - #30 by ChuckPa for the link.

@ChuckPa - if this is ‘bad advice’ then apologies - I just went to a ‘classic version I knew worked’.

Hi @MrGFisher,

FWIW I downgraded to 1.32.7.7621 a few weeks back and the server has not hiccuped since.
Although I am getting notifications that an upgrade is available, I will wait until we know that the issues causing the crashing have been identified and fixed.

Currently with the 1.32.8.7639 my server will start, run for 30 seconds and then manually shut itself down. I tried the Beta with the same result. So hopefully i can get the 1.32.7.7621 and roll back. Form here on I’m going to keep the upgrades in a folder so if I need to roll back, I’ll have copies.

Build ‘6999’ isn’t bad advice either.

In dealing with the ApolloLake and GeminiLake problems, we’re also dealing with the 5.x and 6.x kernel problem

Synology doesn’t use a 6.x kernel so that isn’t an issue yet
The primary issue changed from 1.32.1 → 1.32.7 (which occurred with the engineering builds I have) is the change from IMD → IVD (aka. i965 driver default).
We did this because the Intel Media Driver support on Apollo & Gemini Lake CPUs is not complete.

I might have to try that. 7621 isn’t working wither. PMS still runs for 30 seconds then manually restarts. This all started back in early December. I just recently found the forum explaining the issues with the upgrades.
