Server Version#:1.40.5.8854-7000
Player Version#: all
After updating my Plex Media Server to Version 1.40.5.8854-7000 he always stops running after 15-20 minutes. This happens even if I don’t play anything.
The synology log only says that pms was stopped successfully.
The last PMS version (and all before that) ran without problems. The problem only occurred since I updated to version 1.40.5.8854-7000 about 3 hours ago.
I have already restarted the Synology and reinstalled the PMS update but that doesn’t help. Every time I start the PMS he shuts down again after a short time.
Since the new version doesn’t seem to be running stably (for me), I would like to downgrade to the last version. From what I’ve read, you should uninstall the PMS and then install the desired version, but I’m afraid that all my settings, history, etc. will be lost. I also can’t find the last armv7neon_DSM7.spk version anywhere to download. Is there no other way to reset the PMS to the previous version?
But how do I do a roll back without losing all data, settings, etc.? Simply installing the package over it doesn’t work.
Uninstall the package? From what I’ve read, at some point in this process you’ll be asked if you want to keep your data? Is that right? And then just reinstall the older version of the package? Will you then be asked if you want to import your data again or does that happen automatically?
By the way, I’ve attached a copy of the logs.

Btw can every normal User download my logs from this Post or only me and you???
I am presuming you were previously running something higher than 1.40.0 ?
DSM 6 –
Uninstall the PMS package
Install the desired package (still higher than 1.40.0)
DSM 7 –
Uninstall the package; Use the first radio button (KEEP) option
Now install the desired package (still higher than 1.40.0)
I keep the software stored in a different place than your PMS server
This allows me to change the software without touching your PMS server data (Plex or PlexMediaServer shared folderrs)
In the rollback process, I don’t touch any of your PMS data or settings.
Settings - Server - Network - Show Advanced.
You have a blank (space) in front of "192.168.188… The format is also invalid. There is no 192.168.188.1255. Missing comma.
First of all, the rollback to version 1.40.4.8679-7000 worked great. All settings were retained. Thanks for your instructions!
Regarding the problems you found in the logs, I can’t explain the problem with the IP addresses either. The only thing I changed in the network settings you specified over a year ago was to enter a series of local IP addresses in the “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth” field in the format “192.168.188.1/255.255.255.0, 192.168.188.27/255.255.255.0, etc.” The problem was that I had very unreliable internet at the time and whenever the internet was down, user switching didn’t work. I had hoped to get around it that way, but it didn’t work
And as for the problem with user permissions, in the NAS settings the internal user PlexmediaServer has the same rights (read rights) to all media folders, including the “Series” folder mentioned in the log. I was always able to access all folders with Plex without any problems (even with the newest update). So I have no idea why Plex says it doesn’t have sufficient permissions there, according to the log, because it played the media anyway.
The latest version of PMS (1.40.5.8854) basically worked, I could access and play all media with the clients (Plex for Windows, via the browser and the mobile app) but after about 10-20 minutes PMS always just shut down. When I restarted it manually it worked again for 10-20 minutes before it just shut down again.
Now after the rollback to 1.40.4.8679 it works as usual again. The old version has been running for 3 hours now without shutting down. And I haven’t changed anything else in the settings of my NAS or Plex.
And sorry for the bad English, that’s Google Translate’s fault
The log files from the PMS?
The zip file that I had attached in the post above and from which you quoted 2 posts above were the complete log files from the Plex server that I exported before the rollback. I hadn’t deleted or changed any files in there. If something was missing from the logs, Plex didn’t log it. (I’ve now deleted the attached zip file in my 2nd post because it seems every logged-in user could download it and and I didn’t want every User in the Forum can see them - because some of the data stored in the logs are quite personal - such as client IP addresses, Client Names, filenames, folder paths etc )
If you need the zip file again, I can gladly send it to you again as a pm
If you mean the log files from my NAS, there is hardly anything in them, just that the Plex Media Server was repeatedly stopped by the user “System” (see image in the attachment).
Yes, I deleted them because I didn’t want every user to be able to download my log files. They contain some private data.
But OK, in the hope of a solution to the problem, I’m attaching them again.
These are the exported log files directly before the rollback from version 1.40.5.8854 to version 1.40.4.8679.
If it is important, the DSM version installed on the NAS is DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 6 from May 2023. A newer version is not available for the DS215j.
Then you should also have the DSM version 7.1.1-42962 Update 6 from May 2023 like me. Maybe there is a problem with the specific DSM version? My DS920+, for example, has DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 5 from April 2024, so a much newer version. But I haven’t done the Plex update on the DS920+ yet for fear that it won’t work there either
I downloaded the logs just now and deleted them for you (your privacy)
In my post above, I pointed out two errors:
You incorrectly entered the Networks Allowed Without Auth field:
– There is a leading space before the 192.168.188.1 value. REMOVE IT
– You do not have have a ‘/’ between the subnet and mask values Error parsing allowedNetworks entry ' 192.168.188.1^@255.255.255.0': Invalid argument [system:22]
DSM file permissions for /volume2/Serien do not allow PlexMediaServer to see the contents of that shared folder.
Have you corrected these?
The network error will cause PMS to shutdown due to excessive failures.
Regarding point 1: No, I haven’t tried again to see if the new PMS version works with changed or deleted entries in the “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth”.
But what i know is, that there is a ‘/’ between the subnet and mask values. Here is a screenshot from this morning bevore rollback
Unfortunately, I won’t have direct access to the affected Plex server until Sunday, so I can try again then to see if the new update runs without IP address entries. The old PMS versions don’t seem to be bothered by it, as they’ve been running without problems since this morning.
Regarding point 2: I checked that, but the internal user “PlexMediaServer” definitely had read rights to the folder. If that wasn’t the case, I wouldn’t have been allowed access to it with the old PMS version, or?
I’m having issues doing a manual install on my Synology DS220+. It just keeps loading and telling me to wait until it’s finished. I never get to the installation menu. Not requesting any assistance, I’m going to skip this update and wait for the next version.
Hi everyone… I am experiencing the exact same issues on my QNAP (TS-131) after installing 1.40.5.8854-f36c552fd-armv7hf.qpkg. Can you please direct me to where I can download a previous copy of the Plex Media Server version 1.40.4.xxxxetc. Everything was working perfectly until I downloaded the new version. I need the previous version to get things back up and running. Thank you!
