What’s the version of PMS you’re running on your Syno?
This feature has been released with PMS 1.28.1.6041 in August last year… so in case you’re using an older version, you won’t get to see/use this tab.
I did download and manually install an update before I started importing data.
Version should be 1.31.0.6654.
However… when looking in the settings on screen, it says 4.87.2?
It’s the same on a the HTPC that I used before I switched to the NAS… latest version but no category tab. Is it a premium only feature?
4.87.2 is the version of Plex Web that’s bundled with your version of Plex Media Server. BTW there’s usually no need to use that… unless you’re trying to claim your server, you can use the hosted web app which will always be the latest version of Plex Web that’s available.
I don’t think the Categories tab is a Plex Pass feature.
What agent are you using for the library in question? See ⋮ > Manage Library > Edit... → Advanced > Agent – although I’m even seeing the Categories tab on my Other video type library (where the tab is empty as my private videos don’t have any genres assigned to them).
Thanks for that web link - have that bookmarked now. Version number there shows as Version 4.101.1
For the Agent, I’ve just got the default setting at the moment - Plex Movie or Plex TV Series as appropriate. It seems that running that manual update has added some further options to that list so I’ll see if they make any difference…
I’m a new Plex user, so apologies is this obvious to many of you.
I’ve noticed from other threads that Plex now has a Categories tab alongside the usual Recommendations, Library & Collection tabs.
I don’t have the Categories tab (or the Playlist tab… although I’m not so interested in that one).
Is there something I need to do to add/enable the categories tab? Is it a premium-only thing?
I’m running Plex on a Synology NAS, but also using the hosted app on a Win10 PC. Both with latest versions.
Can you double-check what exact version of the Plex Media Server is running on your Syno?
You can find that information in Settings > [Server Name] > General (not Settings > Plex Web > General!!).
I’ve just noticed that I didn’t have a collections tab under my TV shows… until I created a TV Show collection.
Do I need to do something similar to ‘create’ categories… just having everything tagged by the auto-scraper doesn’t actually create the categories?
From what I’ve learned, the Categories tab might currently require a Plex Pass membership (not 100% sure if that’s intentional or some artifact from the test phase).
