New user, some questions

Hi everybody :slight_smile: New Plex user here, here are some questions. Thanks in advance !

  1. I like to use Plex in english, but I’m based in France and there’s some info that I’d like to translate in french. For example :
  • Content Rating : translate things like “PG-13” to “> 13 ans”
  • Genres : translate them (ex : “Drama” to “Drame”, “Comedy” to “Comédie”, etc.)
  1. There is also some info that I’d like to automatically scrape in french, while all the other info is scraped in english. For example :
  • Title : english title
  • Original title : french title (I would use the “original title” field as an “alternative title” field - I find that “english title” and “french title” are better choices for me than “title” and “original title” - unless there is a way to add a custom “french title” tag field of course !). Please note that I don’t want just “Localized titles” instead of original titles ! I want original titles AND french titles !
  • Tagline : french tagline
  • Summary : french summary
  1. One last question : in Get info > Media Info, I often see “Video Frame Rate = 24p” but “Frame Rate = 23,976p”. Why not have them both display the exact frame rate which in this case would be 23,976 ?
    Also (feature request), it’s a pity that the Media Info dialog can’t auto-resize (or that we can’t resize it ourselves). I have a 1440p display, the Media Info dialog looks small, and we need to scroll to see all the info…

How could I achieve all this ? Thanks for your help ! :smiley:

I do not think there is any way to achieve those goals with Plex as it is today.

Well, I’ve found some workarounds :

  • For Content Rating, it already becomes localized if you select the right language options (ex : PG-13 becomes fr/12), which is OK for me
  • For Genres, this is obviously a missing feature, because even with everything in french (content rating, tagline, summary…), the genres are still displayed in english, which is not normal.
  • For titles, I have managed to scrap the french title in “Title” and the english title in “Original Title”. Unfortunately and very surprisingly, Plex doesn’t provide any way to “Sort by Original Title”. So this is another missing feature.
  • For taglines and summaries, I can scrap them in french and lock them afterwards if required, no problems

So it all boils down to these two easy feature requests :
**1. Make Plex display genres in the selected language, just like it displays other fields in the selected language.
2. Add a “Sort by Original Title” option. This should be trivial to implement !

For request 1, if somebody gives me a comprenehsive list of Plex genres, I’m willing to translate it in french and in spanish myself.
