Thanks guys for the update. We do have other tweaks coming. I’ll keep this issue open on our end.
@“MovieFan.Plex” Just as an aside but do you know if there is a ballpark timescale on the release of version 2.009 of the Samsung Smart TV app? Thanks.
So … toss my two Gen1s for Gen2s or PlexPass … hmmm … Sorry PlexPass
STILL BROKEN! Do the devs need to borrow one of our Fire TV Sticks for testing or something? I guess they can use mine - it’s been pretty worthless for three weeks now.

Nope. I have no idea. Probably better to ask Orca, https://forums.plex.tv/categories/samsung-smart-hub.

I have asked him several times but got no response, hence I thought I’d ask you just on the off chance. But thanks anyway.

Just to let you know that 6.5.3… is still stuttering ![]()
Same issue, using Plex Client on Firestick. Worked fine until it updated, now stutters and buffers using plex client for firestick. I have found a workaround, plex plugin for kodi works flawlessly for me. I have a script updating Plex server daily, using the PlexPass, so I have the latest version available to PlexPass users. My (current) PMS version is 1.9.3.4290 on Ubuntu 14.04.
So disappointed - gave it a month but have yielded to executing the manual roll back ( thanks @paulcarless !)
also not very happy about having to disable all my app updates to make this work

And still no sign of any fixes coming from Plex. More than disappointing.
Does 6.6.0 fix the issue?
The changelog states ‘Improve memory footprint during video playback.’.
PLEX said that the memory consumption was causing the stutter, so it might remedy the issue somewhat.

If anyone can verify this…I’d be very interested to know.
6.6.0 still stuttering on FIre Stick.

Right, I found a way to install the previous version of Plex and now everything is back to normal. No need to change settings and everything plays as it once did.
- Uninstall Plex from the Fire TV/Stick - settings, applications, manage applications, Plex, clear app data, clear cache, Uninstall
- Whilst still in Applications scroll up to Appstore and turn off auto updates.
- Using the Amazon App Store download “Downloader”
- On the Fire TV/Stick go into Settings, Device and then Developer options and select Apps from Unknown Sources and switch ON
- Open Downloader and enter this URL Plex: Stream Movies & TV 6.4.1.1644 (arm-v7a) (nodpi) (Android 4.1+) APK Download by Plex, Inc. - APKMirror (I created this short URL from the original https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/plex-inc/plex/plex-6-4-1-1644-release/plex-6-4-1-1644-2-android-apk-download/download/ )
- Downloaded will open the URL and will throw up a Javascript error. Click ok and use the Amazon remote to move the red circle (pointer) down to click on “Your download will start immediately. If not, please click here.”
- It will start downloading Plex and once it’s finished scroll to the bottom of the page and click INSTALL
- Once installed click OPEN. Sign into Plex as usual and you will see it is working as it was
- IMPORTANT Final step On the Fire TV/Stick go into Settings, Device and then Developer options and select Apps from Unknown Sources and switch OFF
Hope this helps.
Tried all the fixes I could find, nothing like going back to what worked! Thanks a million!
If only could do this with PC PMP, soon as I restart the app it just goes back to the newest UI… nightmare.
I can’t believe that it has already been one whole month and this is still an issue.
For Gen. 1 owners, this is not a small issue. It renders Plex unusable.
I would really like to know if the 6.4 update was ever tested on the Gen. 1 Firestick.
I switched to the Kodi client a week ago and love it. I keep my Plex server running for remote access, but Kodi doesn’t even need a server to work over LAN. Great performance, too. The people at Plex don’t seem to know how to fix this problem, so I recommend Kodi to everyone who doesn’t want to disable all updates on their Fire Stick.
Stutter here on all 3 of my gen 1 sticks. gen2 stick fine 4k firebox is fine. I am not willing to sideload old versions of plex onto all my gen 1 sticks. amazon and netflix apps dont experience this issue on the sticks. i dont really want to fork out for 3 new gen2 sticks to solve a playback issue. for me it seems to stutter every 5 seconds no matter the content. 480p-1080p doesnt matter. direct play or forced transcode all the same thing.

agreed. specially as the issue appears to be plex app only. not like every other app on the gen1 sticks has failed.
I’m seeing the same on the latest app and Fire OS versions on two fire sticks at the same remote site. They’ve been rock solid since they were installed (almost two years) mostly doing transcoded MKV playback. Seeing an obvious hitch in video only approximately every 5-6 seconds. Audio seems unaffected. Playback is perfect on my Android phone on the same local wifi, so the problem is definitely limited to the Fire stick and Plex app.
