Having the same issue on the first gen FireTV Stick, but my FireTV box is fine.
I agree with those that say the FireTV Stick stuttering issue isn’t a minor issue, it makes it incredibly frustrating to watch, therefore, unusable.
Luckily, the FireTV Stick isn’t my primary player, however I demoed Plex to my Aunt/Uncle who want to have movie nights, and the stuttering turned them away from it…
Well over a month and no fix for this! I am a patient guy, but come on Plex devs… Have the guts to roll back to previous UI for now if needed. What is the point of DVR and News items if everything has stutter anyway
Firstly, I want to appoligise for leaving you in the dark regarding this issue - not cool.
We are aware of the stuttering on the Fire TV Stick (1st Gen) and have made a number of changes to improve things. The playback regression is caused by additional memory requirements of the application resulting in us putting too much strain on some lower end devices. In the 6.5 release, we improved the performance, but obviously not enough. In the upcoming v6.6 release, we have made further improvements, but are still not happy that we’ve fully resolved the issue. We are actively working on this issue and as soon as we have found an acceptable solution, we will release it ASAP.
Once again, we’re sorry for this and are working hard to get it resolved.
Just another quick update… A number of the developers who have been working constantly on this issue have identified a number of optimisations that significantly improve performance during playback. Their work is currently being reviewed and will move into testing internally. We’re hoping this goes all well, and if so, we’ll push to get these changes out as quickly as possible. They missed the 6.6 release that went out yesterday (initially in Google Play), but we’ll get a new release out ASAP to allow us to get this out!
Sorry again about this, and thanks for your patience. I’ll post here again with another update once we’ve submitted the fix to Amazon for review.

Thanks for (hopefully) fixing the issue in the next release. I don’t suppose there is some sort of opt in beta those of us who have a myriad of devices can join to provide you telemetry data?
We do have a Beta program through the Google Play Store, but unfortunately, the Amazon App store doesn’t have such a program so you cannot beta test on Fire devices.

Though, those who are knowledgeable enough to use adb could do so, if provided with hosted .apk links for specifically marked beta/debug/telemetry builds.
(Yes, there are some Android code-level developers in the user base out there…
Don’t even need ADB, do you? We could just install the APKs with the Downloader app. Not that I care - I just want a new player app that works, and the ability to delay future updates until they’ve actually been tested.
We’re talking about how to best support an opt-in beta for Amazon users. The “Live Testing” feature supported by the store isn’t as flexible as Google Plays, which is why we haven’t done it in the past. As for the Google Play APKs we share in the release announcements, please do not install these on Amazon devices. The version shared there includes a version of our video player which doesn’t include the optimisations required to make playback possible.
I will raise with the team whether we can share Amazon APKs though, we would probably need to confirm that a sideloaded Amazon APK can still verify the in app purchase activation (for tablet users).
As for the fix I mentioned, it’s being included in our 6.6.1 release which we’ve just built. We are testing through the day (in the US) or the night (here in Europe) but hope to submit it to Amazon tomorrow. Amazon can take anywhere between 12 hours to a few days to perform the review, but we’re hopeful it will be released quickly.
Any new update on this? I’m glad to see there’s a fix in the works as this has been bothering my family for since the update.
I’ve started using my Chromecast instead because of this issue.
Troy, just read the post above yours. According to Ian, the fix should hit the Amazon app store sometime this week. I think we’re just waiting on Amazon at this point - I don’t know of a way to force a Fire Stick app to update manually unless you uninstall and reinstall it. Even then, I’d wait a couple more days for the app to finish testing.
We’re all anxious. I’ve been waiting almost two months for this. In the meantime, Google is adding more voice controls to Chromecast. I still miss my Fire TV’s remote control though.

Correct. Any day now.

Once the app is available in the Amazon Appstore, you can force an update by pushing it from the browser version of their Appstore. I don’t know of a way on-device, either.
Is this Update related to the Country i’m from? Because Amazon App Store still shows me Version: 6.5.3.2115. As far i understood 6.6 should be already available…

It may not have filtered down to the app store yet. Mine is still listed as 6.5.3.2115 too. It may take another few days for it to be fully rolled out.
