Any option to get rid of this horrible blurry thing?

So for instance if someone is hugging the bandwith altough you have told him a few times max 8 Mbit/s and no direct play of 25Mbit files you can end his stream with the message: Max 8Mbit/s remember
You can limit the max bitrate in the server settings, been there a while

Of course not. (And I am not saying the blur is good or bad) Once Plex makes a decision it never changes because Plex is omniscient. (the omnipotent and omnipresent part is still under investigation and official godhood is forthcoming.) It does take a bit of effort and time to go from demon to god. (Even if the destination is only a lesser deity.)
The blur is so drastic they may as well have gone ahead and eliminated the background art all together.

Yes I know but as far as I understand that limit it is global and not per stream. I have 50 Mbit/s upload speed and that is my defined max bitrate. There might be 3 or more remote users wanting to watch something at the same time so I don’t like anyone direct playing a movie with more than 15 Mbit/s.
If I completly misunderstood that feature and it is actually a limit per stream please correct me.
EDIT: Just checked a bit more thorough and found it! Thanks, didn’t know about this one.
Just curious, where are you guys seeing the blurry backgrounds? We’re talking about web interface correct?
You guys using Chrome or some other browser? Graphics look pretty good to me in Chrome. You can also click the icon top right that will turn off the background graphics if you don’t like them.

Not true. They tried this blur only option when the Roku new app was in preview. They said their way was the best but after 8+ thread pages they finally relented and made default blur but gave us the option to go unblur.

Yup, same thing when they came out with the new roku app. After 8+ thread pages they finally relented and gave an option to go back to older style. I really never understand the blur if you cannot tell what the movie/tv show is. Funny part is during the roku app saga, the screenshot they gave on blur was actually balance well (blur and recognizable) but when they came out with the actual app it was unrecognizable with too much blur.

This is on Firefox:
There’s no turning this off that anyone can find.
Can someone show a picture of this?

But once you see it, you won’t be able to un-see it ![]()
And you run the risk of not liking it after you notice it

This might only work in the newest server version (1.4.2). After a restart and/or ‘optimize database’.
I was already on 1.4.2.3200. A restart didn’t do it, but optimize database did.
thanks
Ahh, ok. That’s just highlighted/lightened gradient background to break things up a bit. I thought people were talking about the background pictures associated with each movie/show that were blurred.
IMHO, I like what you guys are talking about. Would never bother me one bit. But of course this is a personal thing.
PS once the web bundle is added to the local server you might be able to switch out that graphic if you don’t like it. Plex likes to update itself but you could always setup a simple schedule to copy said graphic once an hour/day or something to overwrite it if needed. This is something we can check later once it’s local.

But that was the Roku. The Roku developer is the most understanding of the group and, in my belief, by far the best on his platform.
I still think Plex REALLY likes things blurry and will almost never listen to those of us that would like no blur and no (or very little) dimming for what is on the screen. If they have to blur they should just go with a static image of gray clouds or something and not even make a pretense of showing something content related. (Unless they want to start a new game show “Guess the Background Source” )
But I was trying to add a bit of comic relief to this excessively “serious” thread. I guess, in that, I failed. There goes my bid for the “George Burns” award.
No, not a “highlighted/lightened gradient background.” If you flip through a few individual movie/television/music pages you can see the background change colors. It’s such an extreme blur, it’s hard (if not impossible) to tell the original background image is there, but if you get the right image you can almost tell.
No idea what’s used/blurred on the home page, maybe the Plex logo?
…and if you’re really hating the blur/background start reading at this post on how to remove it / override it
This is how “artwork” looks on my 21:9 3440x1440 display. I am not a fan. This needs to scale better for 21:9 resolutions.

There is nothing “blurry” from what I see. You guys just don’t like the background gradient image. That’s not to say you don’t have the right to complain. Just because it doesn’t bother me doesn’t mean I can’t see how it could drive some people crazy. Personally, I like it but could live without it just as well. It just doesn’t matter to me.
With that said I do wish Plex would make some of these types of choices user or server configurable. It could just as easily be a solid background with the “flip of a switch” so all would be happy!
Just my 2 cents but things like this tend to get an over reaction when first introduced but we get used to them in a bit of time. It’s the feature set that excites or disappoints me. I’m personally about features more than look and feel. It’s always a bit hard with a new/change to an interface because it’s foreign and different and face it we don’t like change much. From that standpoint I find the new web interface a home run overall in what it brings to the table. It adds a lot of new features that have been requested for a while. There are also a few new bugs that will need to get worked out but they are trivial to what we just got as a new upgrade to web functionality.
PS for those of you expressing this as a “blur” are you looking at this on a computer or some type of device via web access? I don’t see any “blurring” at all, but a change in color or gradient shift in colors. Am I missing something and not talking about the same thing as your guys? If so I apologize.

Carlo, this is really a blurred picture. But the blur is so strong that some people only perceive it as a gradient (depends ofc on the picture that is being blurred).
You can even override the blur with a user style because it is made with CSS
