New windows server scanned directory/folder not in library setting

I have mapped the “V:” drive to \[IP]\movies. Under movies I have the following directories

  • action
  • comedy
  • drama
  • special interest

when i created the Movies library I added V:\movies\action, V:\movies\comedy, and V:\movies\drama. Plex has scanned the movies in “special interest” and placed them in the Movies library. What the heck? Is there a backend setting I can change? How do I delete or hide the 30 movies Plex scanned in error?

thanks!

If V is [IP]\movies, then what you added to your Plex library is:
[IP]\movies\movies\action
[IP]\movies\movies\comedy
[IP]\movies\movies\drama

I would expect it to find nothing at all in that case, rather than what you’re seeing, but try adding it this way and see what happens:
V:\action
V:\comedy
V:\drama

Thanks but V: is mapped to a place that has these directories

  • TV Shows
  • movies

I’m thinking about moving the special interest directory to that level and re-scanning.

I’d verify the UNC path to which letter V: has actually been mapped.

I’d also look again into the library properties of the Plex library, to see how many paths are present in there. Maybe you added V: (without additional folder) by accident?

Thanks, Otto. I re-checked the mapping path and the path set in the library. I think there is an error in the wizard that’s used to create the initial libraries. Steps to recreate the hypothesized error

  1. choose movies type
  2. i initially set a path of "V:" which has all of the subdirectories ← my error
  3. i removed “V:” and then added all of the three specific subdirectories I needed
  4. the setting had been made somewhere in plex, it stubbornly stuck to scanning everything under “V:”
