New Xbox One App preview

It’s a known issue that we’re looking into :+1:

We’ll be bringing this back but I don’t have an ETA at this time :+1:

Yeah, I have been able to find a thread describing this issue the other day and left a comment over there as well. Thanks for the response and all the effort spent to make this app great

Ok, so I’ve had time to click through this. Here’s everything I’ve noticed (a lot of which will match my Roku feedback).

Home Screen
Left menu should be present upon launch. Moving around in the left menu should change what appears in the content window to the right. Pressing a button on that menu item should slide the left menu aside and cursor should focus on the content window. (as in other iterations of the app for consistency) There is also no option to remember the selected tab. I don’t use that, but it gives me the option of either bumping right to get to the Recommended, or to click on the Library in the left menu to hop straight to the full list.

Movies
Actually, I mostly like the layout here. Excellent use of space for descriptions. Perhaps take the subtitle button out of More and put it on the main screen?

Television
Excellent landing screen for a selected show. Full descriptions of the show are present (you beat the Roku team here). Ditch the More button and you could display all of the buttons by only adding two .

Here comes the fun: Selecting a show with a single season gives no option to select an individual episode at the Show level. I have to bump all the way up top to the seasons ribbon area to get to them. When I do this, the corner display of each episode displays “S1 * E1” instead of the expected “E1” as if I had navigated to them through the season posters. (BRING BACK THE WEDGE!!!)

The Episode level is only slightly less annoying on the Xbox as it is on the Roku. Full descriptions display for the selected episode, which is way better than your colleagues were able to do. I also like that there’s no additional information like cast and suggestions displayed here. Really helps tighten up the screen. Having focus on the episode ribbon upon entry is a nice touch.

The downsides at the Episode level remain the same as the Roku though. I miss the orange wedge to indicate watched, and unwatched episodes. The orange bar should only be used for in progress episodes. It’s an opposite experience than we have in the movie section, where the presence of an indicator means you haven’t watched something, where now over in the shows, it means you have. I’d also like to see the individual episode names make a return as I often look for specific episodes by name. This would remove the need for the number to appear on the thumbnail… where the orange wedge should be.

Also, I am unable to click the description fields to read more if there’s more to be read. I have not verified that this happens throughout the app, but it definitely happens at the Television Episode level.

I’ve been using the preview since it was first released and loving the new guide and the work you guys are putting in. Others have covered most of my issues so my only feedback so far is:

  • I have the Microsoft XBox Media Remote so tend not to use the game controllers for watching TV and noticed that the Channel Up and Down buttons don’t function.

  • A very minor detail but the client version number doesn’t match that of the release notes - the latest version displays 5.1.3 rather than 2.58.0 - will you be adopting 5.x.y for the release notes or should the app display 2.xx,y ?

I would recommend still citing the other things you find issue with so they know that more than one person is having them.

Thanks for the feedback! Some of this stuff is on our radar, but I’m going to pass on other feedback!

I’ll have to look into the Media Remote again, but from what I remember we didn’t receive events we could listen for for those particular buttons.

Regarding the version mismatch I may just report the client version (5.1.3) rather than the package version (2.58.0), haven’t decided yet.

Thank you - I should have been more informative with my previous post… Whilst pressing these buttons doesn’t function as I expected, the OSD is displayed - it just doesn’t do anything else.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned… when watching Live TV there is an additional buffering about 8 seconds into watching the programme (and after the initial buffering).

New app just got opted in for me again, and like the first time about a month ago, it completely fails to connect to my server and therefore doesn’t show any of my sidebar selections or the content itself. Opting out of the new app and back into the existing app proves that the server is working fine and accessible as normal.

can you please return the ‘go to album’ option (it was there before)
it’s very useful for when you are shuffling and want to see the album.

could you also return the shuffle option shortcut, when in an artists page,

The new app has allow insecure connections set to never. Play around with that, as your server might be configured differently.

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252
Player Version#:

The new xbox update ruined Greek subs, they cant be read properly. I have xbox one s .
client: 5.1.3
platform version: 10.0.19041.4162

also can you bring back the skip track on the xbox one controller
now all buttons just fast forward!
the L and R bumper buttons used to skip track

edit: i see you’ve moved it to the trigger buttons

That was it, thanks.

I hate it! It was fine the way it was before. I hate being FORCED into a new update that I didn’t ask for. One of the worst features is that now I can’t shuffle my collections but I can shuffle my library. I have certain movies grouped together, as well as my TV shows and before, I could go into a collection I created and let it shuffle randomly. But now when I go into a collection, I can only play them individually. I also hate that it stops auto-playing at a certain point for some reason now. Before, it would just keep going into the next video til the end of the queue. Now, after a few auto-plays, it’ll stop on its own and I have to tell it to play again. I’m sure these issues will be fixed eventually. I just wish the update was optional, because I had a good thing going.

You can opt out if you go to your profile picture and select Leave early access.

With the latest update, I am seeing noticable but inconsistent improvements in buffering time. Skipping forward/back still displays “buffering” every time but instead of the minimum 3-4 sec delay, I initially experienced “buffering” that only took 1 sec or so. This only lasted for the first episode of a recorded TV (. TS) program though. When I started the second episode, the old behavior was back.

I also tried Live TV this morning and am still experiencing the playback error that ends all live TV playback after about 15mins.

Baby steps I guess…

I looooove these updates. Especially since I lose the connection to the local server. Tried everything. restarting router, refresh NAT.
Every ■■■■■■■ time, and its not any one solution for this either it seems

Thank you so much!
