New Xfinity Cable Modem can't remote access now

I had an older Xfinity cable modem. My Plex server is connected via wifi to a Netgear R6400 Nighthawk, which is hardwired into the Xfinity cable modem. I was able to setup port forwarding just fine so I could access my plex server anywhere. Just swapped out for the newest Xfi cable modem, add port forwarding the same as I had it set in my previous cable modem but it doesn’t work.

I didn’t change anything in the Netgear. Found another suggestion here to add the server to the DMZ in Xfi. I added the Netgear ip to the Xfi DMZ. Remote Access was green for a moment then red.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

is your netgear set to only allow plex traffic from the ip of your old modem?

My apologies for the delayed reply. Guess I just needed to give it time. I didn’t change anything but tried to access my Plex server remotely and it worked! Checked my settings page and there’s now a green checkmark. YAY!

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it!!

I had the same problem and never did get it to work. After hours on the phone with xfinity tech support, their conclusion was that my Netgear router was bad. I took it out off the network and now am just using the xfinity router. In that configuration, remote access works well. The problem I’m having now is that everything seems to be connecting by remote access, even though all the devices are in the same IP address range and connected to the same router and can ping each other. Tracert shows only one hop. I keep getting messages that direct connection is not available or that no connection is available and I have to keep retrying until it connects. This is true for both wifi and wired connections.
