NFL Recordings

DVR continues to be a dumpster fire

Unfortunately, this really is true. My NFL recordings now “disappear” because plex thinks two games that start recording at the same time are the “same game” due to the stupid same timestamp; but worse, while I get all the game info (i.e. teams playing, etc) in the Live TV listing, the recorded show has nothing - just the date recorded and “Episode ”. And, I can’t “split” them - I have to actually log into the server and rename one of the files with a different timestamp.

Come on plex, this is basic stuff, you’re really looking bad with this kind of idiotic failure. I’ve been a lifetime member since almost the beginning, when it was only $79 for lifetime subscription. I’ve been hoping that your DVR would be usable, but it still just isn’t. Please hire someone who can get it working.

Plex - maybe you can use https://www.thesportsdb.com/ in addition to tvdb?

Seeing the same issues here as well, NFL games showing up as duplicates instead of separate recorded shows. These were recorded using DVR.

It’s been working better for me on the latest couple of (working) betas. There have also been major issues with the betas, so be careful. You may introduce some other affliction into your media experience.

Thank you for the words we were all thinking.

I love when I go through and name all the games, then it scans the files again and changes all the names back to the date. This process with the new EPG data has been very frustrating. I hope they are saving some money.

Doing this (new Sports library) did separate the games, but I am still having a couple of problems: If I watch part of any game it marks that progress on all of the games - as if it still sees them as one game. The titles are nondescript, but I am just living with that. The other issue is fast-forwarding through a game will often result in frozen playback. I am thinking that this may be a problem with the FireStick 4K implementation, but I don’t know.
My setup is a fairly fast, dedicated Xeon server, FireStick 4K, and all my recordings are OTA.

You’ll want to start a new/different thread for this issue since it’s unrelated to getting NFL recordings to be named correctly/etc.

Post here: https://forums.plex.tv/c/plex-players/streaming-devices and tag it with fire-tv.

Yes - this would happen because it is currently making multiple games on same day as multiple versions of same video. This is with our development team to fix as part of the changes of how sports events are handled

I do appreciate the work that ya’ll have been putting in lately to the core functionality of Plex - like the recent Nvidia upgrades for Linux. But something is still not right on 1.18.0.1944 with DVR vs NFL.

There are 2 games on right now, and both are supposed to be recording - Texans/Chiefs and Seahawks/Browns. The Texans game is being recorded, but although Seahawks/Browns shows up in the DVR Schedule, it has a play button next to it instead of a red record icon and only one tuner LED is illuminated on the front of my HDHomerun.

Despite Plex being instructed to record the remainder of the NFL games today, it’s not going to record another one until Thursday according to the DVR Schedule. If I look at these games in the Guide view, it says that all are scheduled to be recorded.

And overall the live TV pixelation issue improved with the last update, but I was still experiencing the same issue on a specific channel last night…

I ended up with a 6hr 49min version of Seahawks at Browns to top everything off!

After the latest update I got 2 NFL games recorded called “Teams TBA”. Not sure that is an improvement. I can’t seem to find when they got recorded in the DVR Schedule. I will manually refresh the guide and see if that helps.

It is possible that the guide was not refreshed before those recordings. As of 1.18.0.1906 the scheduled task, if not disabled, will do a full refresh of the guide every night

same issue here as well. oddly all it seems to take is re-naming one of the files, scanning the library, then I can change the name back to exactly what it was. the library keeps them split at that point. not that this really helps.

anyway, yes, please fix so that multiple same-day recordings don’t get grouped together.

Season is halfway over already and these issues are not fixed.

I’m started using the dedicated sports recording library, but also have the issue of the progress being applied to all of the games from the same day.

Luckily, I’m using iOS and not experiencing the fast-forwarding freeze issue.

Guess it’s a workaround until something gets fixed.

Update:

A Plex Media Server change will be released soon where recorded sports events will no longer try to match thetvdb at the end of recording. The action will be similar to having a separate library with the Personal Media agent. It is expected to also apply to News.

The change will also fix the issue of recording multiple different games on the same day.

I expect this fix to go through alpha internal testing over the next week or so before making its way into the release cycle. I cannot say when it will finally get released

Thank you for the update.

Update:

Plex Media Server 1.18.2.2029 has just been released as beta

It has the changes for sports and news which led to incorrect matching of recordings. The changes also fix the issue when recording multiple sports games on the same day

  • (DVR) Preserve EPG metadata when assimilating Sports and News recordings. (#10544)

Sports and News recordings will no longer get matched with tvdb and will preserve the EPG data

Great, because I was still having problems with the previous beta release.

Do you have a suggestion as how we should “match” this series of recordings? Which agent should we use?

I keep ending up with something titled “NFL.”
