I can’t seem to get the show “Night Gallery” (1969) to follow TVDB (Aired) episode order. I see other people have had issues with this show, and I read through those threads and have not found a solution that works. All of my files are named exactly to follow this order (via filebot), but no matter what I try, my Plex library isn’t using that order.
Here’s what I have tried:
Set the “episode ordering” at the show-level to TheTVDB (Aired)
Toggled the episode ordering to the other options and back again
When I choose the other episode ordering options, the episode metadata updates to those orderings. However, when I select my desired TVDB (Aired) option, the episode metadata is still set as if TMDB Aired is selected.
Is there a way to get this to work with the TVDB Aired episode ordering? Or am I going to have to re-name and combine multiple files into the TMDB ordering?
I tried duplicating this with just S01E01 and yes, I do not get the TVDB aired order to work. Like you, it is showing up as the TMDB S01E01. TMDB lists the first 3 TVDB episodes as specials.
I’m no expert, but I think the reason the TVDB aired order is not working is because when I look at TMDB, there is no TVDB external ID for S01E01. (It’s the only one I’ve tried.) Still figuring out how to get the ID’s myself.
The other problem seems to be TMDB & TVDB list the episodes in an incompatible way. I am not sure how to deal with that.
TMDB S01E01 - The Dead Man / The House Keeper
Seems there isn’t really a solution, so I’m going to give up and switch to TMDB order. I’ve already spent too much time fiddling with this one single show. Thanks for testing it on your end to confirm it isn’t just me at least!
Using WebTools-NG to export my TV Shows library I can see that even though Night Gallery has Episode ordering set to TheTVDB (Aired), in WebTools-NG its value is N/A
So I did a little experiment.
These two shows had the following Episode ordering:
The Pillars of the Earth - The Movie Database (Aired) The Pitt - The Movie Database (Aired)
And that’s what WebTools-NG reports.
Now, if I change the Episode ordering field to TheTVDB (Aired), the value in WebTools-NG changes to:
The Pillars of the Earth - N/A The Pitt - N/A
@drzoidberg33 and the rest of the Plex Team: Happy New Year!!!
I’ve set the ordering for the show specifically to “The TVDB (Aired)” but once it’s finished refreshing metadata it’s listing S25E01 as Pacific Ditching, which matches the TMDB ordering & the TVDB DVD order but does not match the intended TVDB aired ordering.
If it was using TVDB aired ordering it should be Cabin Chaos that is S25E01.
I took a look at Mayday. On TMDB, they only had IMDB external ids, Nothing for TVDB. I’ve added the TVDB ids. Give Plex a few days to pull in the new data and then TVDB (aired) order should work. I’ve got test folder setup for this, so I’ll keep an eye on it.
TMDB has combine episodes like S01e01 The Dead Man / The House Keeper where TVDB has them as separate episodes so not sure if linking would work in this case.
As BigWheel mentioned, the underlying issue is really that TMDB lists double episodes and TVDB lists them separately. As I understand it, Plex pulls in the TMDB and uses the external IDs that point to TVDB episodes to do the episode ordering whether its the aired or DVD ordering. Currently TMDB has no external IDs in their db that point to the TVDB entries. And I am not sure how to get around the fact that you would really need to external IDs to point to the TVDB episodes. I think that is why he’s sent this to the metadata team to see if there is some way to do it without totally messing things up
I did a Refresh Metadata on my Mayday test folder and I’m now seeing the TVDB (aired) episode ordering, so It looks like adding the externals IDs to TMDB worked
