No Audio

Hello,

I am experiencing an error when playing certain titles on my new Nvidea Shield Server.

Previously I have ran the server off my external NAS Drive with no audio issues with any titles. After creating a server and including the same folders as before. When playing certain titles from the Shield Plex app, I attempt to adjust the volume using either Shield remote I get the following error;

_This app is set for surround sound. Use the TV remote to adjust the volume.
_
No audio plays what so ever. I have no external speakers attached to my TV. Altering the volume on the TV remote doesn’t affect the output.

If I exit the problematic title and play another I have absolutely no audio issues. I have checked all settings within Plex and found nothing i can alter that I think would affect this.

Any help is greatly appreciated. If any info is needed let me know and I’ll provide

Thanks

That sounds like your Shield, or the Plex app, is selecting an audio stream that is incompatible with your hardware (TV).

What I would suggest trying is in the Shield’s audio settings set it to stereo and, if it works, gradually move up from there until it does not.

Then you might try some Plex audio settings to get the level/type of audio that is not working in operation.

But I would start with the Shield’s settings as you know that some/most of you files work well.

Never thought to check the Nvidea settings!! Such a dufus!!

There was an Audio setting for Surround Sound: Automatic, Always & Never

Thanks so much for your insight

I have noticed, since I frequently have the same problem, that restarting Plex sometimes helps. I’m guessing that that resets the Plex app to defaults, since my problem is server-based, not device-based (it shows up both with my Android TV Plex app and with my Roku Plex app). It often works for my loss of remote access as well, which also tells me the problem is one with the software, not my hardware. In many ways Plex is a very cool app. But I’ve become so frustrated with its quirks and shortcomings, and the foolish insistence by its designers that the hiccoughs I experience are due to my system, not their software, that I’m looking very hard for a replacement. I’ve tried Kodi in the past, and I really hate it, but i may have to bite the bullet and migrate.
