No download button on Plex Movies

I’ve installed the latest version of Plex and have bought my Plex Pass subscription. However, there is no download button on Movies.

Assuming this is a rather new subscription – can you restart your server and force-quit/restart the Plex for iOS app?
I take it this is about movies on your own server? Otherwise let your friends check if they have enabled the option for you to download media from their servers.

Edit: just for clarification… you can only download videos from your own or shared libraries. You cannot download media from the online media sources (e.g. Movies & Shows on Plex)

Thank you. It’s my friend’s server but I know he’s enabled downloads. I’ll try force quitting and restarting.

You can only start the download from within the app to which you want to download.
i.e. you cannot use the web app to download a movie to your mobile phone.

I was hoping to download to my desktop so I can watch movies when I’m camping.

Then you will have to download and install “Plex for Windows/Mac” and use that.
Download link below.

Thank you. I thought I had but I’ll check.

Not sure if this is your issue, but I’ve had a problem on some of my plex apps (currently happening for me on an Android tablet) where the download button is there, but it’s just a filled in white circle, instead of what I think is supposed to be a circle with a down-arrow in it. It’s as if the icon for the download button didn’t load. The button works, but you wouldn’t know to click it to download something because it’s just a big solid circle.

Sadly that wasn’t the issue. I checked.

I’ve been told that as I’m simply watching my friend’s movies that I don’t need Plex Media Server. Is that right? I have a Plex Pass but not the Media Server.

You don’t need a Plex Media Server. Otto was referring to the desktop app which is available for Mac and Windows (usually referred as “Plex for Windows/Mac”). This app looks like the browser version but has the capability to download media for offline consumption.

Thank you @tom80H and @OttoKerner. That was the problem. All good now.
